River level integration coming for this stretch.

The lowdown

  • This is a proper Usk countryside stretch, tucked away above Usk town in Monmouthshire. Quiet farmland, big-sky views and a bit of river character.
  • The beat is roughly 1,270 yards long. From the river access point, the fishing runs for two fields upstream and two fields downstream.
  • You’re fishing the left bank facing downstream. The opposite bank belongs to a separate syndicate, so don’t wander across or fish the wrong side.
  • Access is via the B4598 between Abergavenny and Usk. Take the signposted Kemeys Commander turn, around a quarter of a mile from the main road.
  • The approach goes through Lower House Farm, then on foot along the public right of way to the river. It’s a rural walk rather than a drive-to-the-peg job.
  • Parking is only allowed in the road lay-by before the farm. No vehicle beyond the end-of-lay-by notice, and take care around solar-panel site traffic.
  • Close every gate behind you. Sounds obvious, but it matters when crossing farmland and keeps access sweet for everyone.
  • The Usk offers scope for salmon and sea-trout fishing, plus brown trout, chub, dace, eel and roach named by MTAA across its waters.
  • For salmon, keep things moving. Don’t fish in front of another member on the same beat, and move one pace per cast when being followed down the beat.
  • Night fishing isn’t confirmed in the official details, so check with MTAA before booking. Salmon catches must be reported within 24 hours.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: The details don’t set out a specific method or tackle approach for this beat. Salmon anglers should follow the club’s moving-down rules, while other approaches must fit the current MTAA rules and national byelaws.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
