River level integration coming for this stretch.

The lowdown

  • This is a proper middle stretch of the Usk, starting just above the A465 road bridge at the stream and finishing where the woods begin.
  • Fishing is from the left, or east, bank only. The riverbank can be followed upstream or downstream from the access route.
  • The setting is beside an industrial site, so it is not the usual picture-postcard riverbank. Still, the water offers wild trout fishing and a chance of migratory fish.
  • Wild brown trout are the main resident draw. Salmon can be present when river conditions are suitable, with sea trout also named for the beat.
  • Chub, dace and eel are also listed. In spring, keep an eye out for lamprey moving stones before spawning — a proper bit of river wildlife.
  • The beat runs for approximately 1,070 yards, giving plenty of water to explore rather than a tiny handful of pegs. Individual peg numbers are not published.
  • For trout, a light, mobile approach fits the beat: cover the likely runs and glides, keeping an eye on water height and any fresh colour. Salmon and sea trout depend heavily on suitable river conditions.
  • Access is controlled by MTAA. Book through the association’s online system, then use the factory car park and report to security before fishing.
  • The factory car park is reached from the A465 roundabout towards Merthyr Tydfil. Turn into the employee car park opposite the security office, respect vehicles and operations, and leave afterwards via the factory exit onto the A4042.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: A mobile trout approach is the obvious starting point, working the runs and glides as river conditions allow. Salmon and sea trout are present when conditions are suitable, so check the current booking rules and river situation before planning a targeted session.
