River Ouse Beningbrough

A cracking YDAA day-ticket stretch on the right bank of the Ouse, running for over two miles through the Park and Village sections at Beningbrough. Proper mixed fishing here, with big barbel, summer bream bags and specimen pike around the Nidd mouth.

Run by Yorkshire District Anglers Association (YDAA) · checked 6 Oct 2026

The lowdown

  • YDAA controls the right bank for over two miles, split neatly into the Park Section and Village Section.
  • The Park Section starts at the old brick tower in Beningbrough Hall grounds and finishes at the notice board at the bottom of the park.
  • The Village Section then runs from the park-bottom fence to the field in front of the houses at Beningbrough village.
  • The River Nidd joins the Ouse on the opposite bank about halfway along. That mouth is a key feature, with sand banks for bream and specimen pike known nearby.
  • There are sweeping bends and plenty of sand banks, both worth a look when you’re after bream. Large summer bags are possible.
  • Barbel are numerous, including some of the biggest in the river. Look close in, fishing between the bank and the piles rather than chucking miles out.
  • Piles and snags are numerous along the bank, so don’t faff about with light gear if you’re targeting specimen fish. Heavy tackle is the sensible shout.
  • Roach and perch can be tackled nicely on the pole, waggler or stick. For bream, a groundbait feeder with caster or worm is recommended.
  • It’s tidal-influenced Ouse water, so river levels can change the conditions. Keep an eye on the flow and expect the swims to alter with a bit of colour.
  • There are no platforms, toilets or listed disabled access. It’s also a match venue, so day-ticket availability can be restricted when matches are on.

Methods: For barbel, fish close to the bank around the piles with heavy tackle. Roach and perch suit pole, waggler or stick tactics, while bream are a good feeder target with caster or worm.
