We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a compact little fishery, with five swims currently listed. So there’s no sprawling hike along miles of bank — pick your peg wisely and settle in.
- The club describes the far bank as having covered glides. That’s the sort of feature worth watching closely, especially where the flow eases and the crease forms.
- There are deep runs in the fishery too. They’ll be the obvious places to test with a feeder, or to trot through if the flow is behaving.
- The Severn can be a proper river, so keep an eye on colour and pace. A touch of colour and a steady push can put the fish on the munch.
- Chub, barbel, roach and perch are among the coarse species named by the club across its waters. Trout and grayling are also listed as game-fishing species.
- The club says salmon are not uncommon in this section of the Severn. Any fish showing in the glide or crease deserves a proper look.
- Trotting should suit the smoother water, while a feeder is the natural shout for those deeper runs. Keep it tidy and fish the line rather than lobbing blind.
- Access is through a gated field entrance around 200 metres beyond the Hay Loft pub. Look for the large oak tree, then walk across the field to the river.
- Park inside the entrance along the hedge line. Don’t drive down to the water’s edge — it’s a short walk, and the club is clear on keeping vehicles back.
- You’ll need club key or gate access, plus current membership paperwork. Handy stretch, cracking setting, but it’s very much a members’ water rather than a turn-up-and-fish job.
Methods: Trotting the glides and crease looks bob on, with a feeder worth trying in the deeper runs. Keep tackle sensible for a flowing Severn and search the water rather than sitting on one line all day.
