We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is Birmingham Anglers Association water, run by the BAA since its formation in 1883. Access is controlled, so don’t just rock up and expect to fish.
  • The Brook Section produced a huge five-hour match weight of 155 lb in 2005. That gives you a fair idea of the stretch’s match pedigree when the river is on the munch.
  • BAA favours swimfeeder and ledger tactics here. Keep things tidy and fish the crease, edges and steadier water rather than only hammering the main flow.
  • The exact length of the section isn’t published, and neither is the number of pegs. So expect a proper bit of exploring rather than a neatly numbered peg map.
  • The first few pegs upstream of the brook confluence belong to Albrighton Anglers. Take care around the boundary and don’t assume every peg is BAA water.
  • The upstream limit of the BAA section is marked by a plastic barrier in the field edge. Handy enough, but worth locating before settling into a swim.
  • The fishing path follows alongside the brook before taking you to the river. The access track leads to the BAA car park, with a gate code needed for entry.
  • Coming from Bridgnorth, cross the river, bear left towards Chelmarsh, then continue towards Highley. The track is just before the railway bridge.
  • There’s a maximum headroom of 7 feet at the car-park gate, and coaches aren’t permitted. Worth checking the vehicle before making the trip.
  • Barbel, chub, pike, roach and dace are named for the BAA water. Night fishing is allowed, but only with a permit bought in advance from BAA headquarters.

Methods: Swimfeeder or ledger tactics are the favoured approach. Fish the flow changes and river features sensibly, with barbel and chub the obvious targets when conditions are right.
