River Trent Archers stretch
Archers is a cracking new-for-2022 club stretch on the River Trent in Staffordshire, running for about a mile. It sits roughly a mile downstream of BIWAS’s King’s Bromley stretch.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a proper River Trent club water, run by Burslem Izaak Walton Angling Society — BIWAS to the regulars.
- The Archers stretch was new for 2022, so it’s one of the newer bits of river in the club’s portfolio.
- You’ve got about a mile to explore. Plenty of water to get your head around, without it becoming a full-on expedition.
- The club hasn’t published a peg count, bank-side breakdown or precise boundary map for this stretch. So expect to do a bit of homework before settling on a swim.
- There’s no separate Archers species list either. BIWAS describes it as offering typical River Trent species, with barbel, chub, pike and brown trout named across its wider river fishing.
- That mix gives you a fair few ways to have a go. Think feeder or ledgering when the river’s got a bit of push, and look for the crease, steadier water and any proper depth changes.
- When conditions allow, trotting is worth having in the armoury. A bit of colour and a steady flow can make the river come alive, especially when fish are on the munch.
- The club hasn’t published separate Archers details for seasonal tactics, parking or access points, so check the arrangements before travelling. No point having a cracking plan and then faffing about at the wrong spot.
- It’s club-members water rather than a standalone day-ticket stretch. Membership runs from 1 January to 31 December, and juniors need to be accompanied by an adult member at all times.
Methods: A flexible Trent approach makes sense here: feeder or ledgering for barbel and chub, with trotting worth a look when the flow and clarity are right. Pike fishing is also part of the club’s wider river fishing.
