The lowdown
- There are approximately 33 pegs here, but don’t treat that as 33 guaranteed fishing spots. Seasonal weed can restrict the fishable pegs, so the available choice changes rather than staying bob on all season.
- The stretch averages 3–5 feet deep and is approximately 50 yards wide. That gives you a useful picture of its scale before choosing your kit, though the upstream pegs have their own shallower character.
- Peg 1 sits at the upstream end beside the Leicester Line railway bridge. It’s a handy landmark for getting your bearings and working out which end of the stretch you’re heading towards.
- Pegs 1–4 are the fast, shallow swims. If that’s the sort of river fishing you fancy, this is the section to consider first; don’t assume the average depth describes these pegs.
- Bream your thing? Pegs 9–13 are the ones the club singles out. That’s a useful starting point for choosing a swim, rather than assuming every peg offers the same sort of fishing.
- The club names roach, perch, chub, bream, barbel and dace here. There’s a cracking spread of river fish to think about, but those names aren’t a promise of what any particular peg will produce.
- Come in via Watson Street behind Tesco, with public parking by the old pump house. The flat tarmac walkway suits a fishing trolley, saving some carrying faff; driving behind the pegs is only permitted during matches.
Methods: Let the named peg features guide your approach: pegs 1–4 offer fast, shallow fishing, while 9–13 are the club’s bream picks. Seasonal weed can limit swim choice, so keep your plans flexible.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
