River Trent – Silver Way, Burton upon Trent
Silver Way is Coors Angling Club’s brewery-excavated cutting off the Trent at Burton upon Trent. It’s a proper change from a pegged match stretch, with deep water at Bream Corner, lily-covered shallows and a stalking approach.

River Trent – Silver Way, Burton upon Trent
The lowdown
- Silver Way is a cutting connected to the Trent, rather than simply a length of the main river. The brewery excavated it, and the club describes fishing here as stalking rather than conventional match fishing. Think individual swims, not a tidy match line.
- There are no defined pegs, so don’t arrive looking for a numbered spot. That fits the stalking character nicely: the useful distinctions here are the mouth, the lily-covered shallows and the deeper water above the Abbey.
- The mouth faces Broadholme Island and goes by the name Bream Corner. Either bank can be fished here, giving you a choice of sides at this particular part of the cutting.
- Bream Corner reaches approximately 10 feet deep. That’s a handy bit of depth to bear in mind when choosing a swim, especially compared with the much shallower, lily-covered water farther along Silver Way.
- Shallow water with lily cover extends towards and beyond the footbridge. It’s a different-looking proposition from the mouth, and a key feature to keep in mind when weighing up where to fish.
- There’s deeper water above the Abbey too. Don’t treat the whole cutting as one uniform swim: the named areas give you a useful outline of how its depth and character change.
- The club names bream, roach, carp, pike and tench for Silver Way. That’s a cracking mix, but the club’s stalking description is the steer here—not an invitation to expect conventional match-style fishing.
- Access is via the public car parks behind Burton Library. Keep the Cherry Orchard restriction firmly in mind: fishing opposite the remembrance garden is prohibited. Normal hours are dawn to dusk, so don’t plan a cheeky overnight session without sorting permission and checking eligibility.
Methods: Stalking is the club’s stated approach here, rather than conventional match fishing. For specimen fish, use an unhooking mat and suitable landing net; check the additional club rules before pike or lure fishing.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
