Lee Place
Lee Place is a beautiful, secluded section of the non-tidal River Arun, run by Billingshurst Angling Society. It’s proper fishy water too, with big club-match weights, loads of bream and some cracking chub sport.

The lowdown
- This is one of Billingshurst Angling Society’s best non-tidal Arun sections. The society controls roughly six miles of river in total, with Lee Place forming part of that private water.
- The stretch is described as beautiful and secluded, so it sounds like a quieter bit of Arun rather than a busy, built-up peg factory. Lovely stuff.
- Bream are present in large numbers and club match weights have topped 65lb. That points to serious bream potential when they’re grouped up and on the munch.
- Specimen roach are present, alongside dace and chub. A float approach should be well worth a go where the flow allows, with careful presentation and a tidy bait choice.
- Chub fishing is exceptionally good here. Chub over 4lb have been recorded, and multiple fish are possible, so keep an eye on likely cover and crease water.
- Carp are present to 20lb or more, while pike also run to 20lb or more. That gives the stretch a bit of extra spice beyond the usual Arun silverfish game.
- For bream and roach, feeder or float tactics look the obvious starting point. Chub anglers will want to work likely swims carefully, while pike fishing needs to follow the society’s fish-care rules.
- Good parking is available at several points close to the river, which is a proper bonus. Still, respect the banks and footpaths, and don’t cut across crops, grassland or underwood.
- The river is closed from 15 March through 15 June inclusive. Every fish must go back alive, and nothing may be taken or moved from society waters.
Methods: Float and feeder tactics should cover the bream, roach and dace, while chub are well worth targeting around the likely crease and cover. Carp and pike add bigger-fish options, with careful fish handling essential.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
