River Severn – West Diglis, Worcester

West Diglis is Worcester Angling Society’s Severn stretch from the fence beside Diglis Bridge down to the Teme mouth. Large barbel, chub and bream are the headline draw, but the steep banks mean picking your swim needs a bit of care.

Run by Worcester Angling Society · checked 3 Oct 2026 · boundaries only partly described by the club

The lowdown

  • Start with the boundary, not just the first tempting peg. The upstream limit is the fence beside Diglis Bridge, adjoining the Weir Lane footpath. Look for the WAS sign marking the pedestrian entrance.
  • The fishing runs along the field to the River Teme mouth. That gives you two clear landmarks to work between — handy for keeping your session on the Society’s stretch without any boundary faff.
  • Large barbel, chub and bream get a proper mention here. They’re the headline fish for West Diglis, rather than a promise of what’ll be on the munch when you turn up.
  • There’s more than the bigger fish to think about. Roach, perch, dace and bleak are also named for the stretch, so the smaller-fish side of this Severn water deserves a mention too.
  • Pike and zander are both named, giving predator anglers another reason to look at West Diglis. Mind the bait rule, though: Society rules prohibit using coarse fish as bait, whether alive or dead.
  • Take the bank access seriously. The banks are steep, and some pegs are difficult to climb out of. Think about getting back up before settling yourself and your kit into a swim.
  • Some swims can be overgrown as well. Don’t treat every gap as an easy peg; choose somewhere you can get into and out of safely, rather than letting a tempting spot make the decision.
  • Sort your permit before heading down — there’s no paying on the bank. And don’t plan a cheeky overnight session: the venue page says no night fishing, despite a conflicting exception in the general rules.

Methods: Barbel, chub and bream give you plenty to plan around, with pike and zander named too. Keep predator bait within Society rules; barbless or micro-barbed hooks are recommended on its river waters.
