River Teme at Stanford Bridge
A cracking three-quarter-mile run of typical River Teme water at Stanford Bridge, with fishing on the left bank above the old road bridge. It’s a BAA members-only stretch, with a proper car park right by the bridge and night fishing available by permit.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a rural Teme stretch tucked around the old and newer Stanford bridges. The old bridge is pedestrian-only, while the newer B4203 bridge carries the traffic.
- Fishing is on the left bank above the old road bridge. That’s the key bit to get your bearings on before tackling up.
- BAA describes it simply as typical River Teme water. No separate peg count is published, so don’t expect a neat numbered-peg setup.
- The stretch runs for approximately three-quarters of a mile, giving members a decent bit of bank to explore rather than one tightly packed swim.
- The named fish are barbel, chub, roach and pike. A proper mixed coarse-fishing line-up, with plenty of scope for changing approach.
- Trotting and feeder work are the obvious ways to cover a flowing Teme, while lighter tackle can suit the roach and chub. For barbel, keep things solid and sensible.
- Pike are also named for the water, so a pike-specific approach is worth considering when that’s your target. Stick to the relevant BAA rules and licence requirements.
- The BAA car park is beside the old bridge. The published postcode is WR6 6RU, and the official location is 52.289613, -2.418129.
- There are no public day permits. Night fishing is possible, but only with a permit bought in advance from BAA headquarters. Don’t leave that faff until the last minute.
Methods: Trotting and feeder fishing suit the flowing Teme, with sturdier tackle for barbel and a pike-specific approach when targeting pike. Follow BAA by-laws and hold the appropriate Environment Agency licence.

- Night fishing requires a permit, purchased in advance from BAA headquarters.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
