We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is a cracking Lower Teme stretch, beginning at or around Old Powick Bridge and running for roughly 1.5 miles. The upstream boundary is the end of the second meadow above the weir.
  • The Society highlights the Teme for barbel and chub fishing, with specimen barbel specifically mentioned. Quality chub and roach are also on the menu, plus pike, bream, perch and eels across the water.
  • Below Old Powick Bridge, access is via a stile on the left bank below the bridge. The stretch is reached via Old Lane at Powick Bridge, so keep the approach tidy and straightforward.
  • For the upstream section, use the entrance by the bungalow. Don’t park in the lane by that entrance, and don’t use the Bennetts Farm Dairy entrance. That one is a firm no.
  • Cars and motorcycles should be parked on the access road to Old Powick Bridge, without blocking access to nearby properties. Bob on, but be considerate — it’s shared access.
  • There can occasionally be bulls in the meadows below the New Bridge. Give them plenty of room and take care crossing the fields. No need for a cheeky shortcut.
  • The river should suit classic Teme approaches: trotting for roach and chub, and feeder or bait tactics when the barbel are on the munch. Work the crease, deeper glides and steady runs.
  • Wading is not allowed beyond knee depth anywhere on the Lower Teme. Keep your feet planted sensibly and fish from the bank where possible.
  • This is Worcester Angling Society water, established in 1838, and it is available to Society members only. No public day-ticket price is stated for this stretch.

Methods: Trotting, feeder and sensible bait fishing should cover the main game here, with the crease, glides and steadier runs worth a look for chub, roach and barbel. Keep wading within the knee-depth limit.

Key rules

  • No coarse fish, dead or alive, may be removed from Society waters.
  • Grayling must not be retained in keepnets.
  • Fishing is prohibited from two hours before a Society contest until the contest ends.
  • Wading is not allowed beyond knee depth anywhere on the Lower Teme.
  • Anglers must not fish opposite or impede another angler fishing the opposite bank.
  • Bulls may occasionally be present in the meadows below the New Bridge.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
