Warwickshire Avon
Wick
The lowdown
- The water sits at Wick village, just near Pershore in Worcestershire. Handy enough once you’re over Pershore Bridge and heading into the village.
- There are two separate sections, one above and one below the lock. Each has 20 pegs, giving roughly 40 in total.
- BAA describes the fishing as typical Avon fishing. So expect a proper river session rather than a tidy little pool job.
- The Wick lock is the obvious landmark and the stretch is also linked with the nearby Avon floodplain. Worth keeping those features in mind when picking a swim.
- Roach, perch, chub and bream are the main named species here. Occasional barbel are also present, so there’s a cheeky chance of something a bit stronger.
- It’s billed as a popular stretch for club contests, which tells you it’s a well-used bit of river with plenty of appeal for match-style fishing.
- A float approach for roach, perch and chub fits the Avon character, while a feeder gives you a solid option for bream and deeper-looking swims.
- Keep an eye on the flow and fish the crease, especially when there’s a bit of colour. The usual river basics apply: look for steadier water, glides and any change in depth.
- Night fishing is prohibited, so this is a daylight-only ticket. Don’t forget the appropriate Environment Agency rod licence as well as BAA membership.
- Parking is in the BAA car park at the end of the lane by the farm buildings. Leave room for farm machinery — don’t block the lane or access.
Methods: Trotting and feeder fishing are the obvious shouts for this typical Avon water. Work the creases and steadier glides for roach, perch, chub and bream, with the chance of an occasional barbel.
