Henlow Bridge Lakes
Henlow Bridge Lakes gives you four very different coarse-fishing options, from Jordan’s carp to the accessible canal-style lakes, plus seasonal fishing on the River Hiz. There’s plenty of choice, but check the closing time and current tariff before loading the car.
“7.3/10 — The advertised carp, tench and mixed coarse stocks give anglers several worthwhile options, without implying guaranteed catches.”

The full rundown on Henlow Bridge Lakes
Henlow Bridge Lakes has a handy spread of fishing without making every lake do the same job. There are four advertised fishing lakes, plus the River Hiz, with carp, mixed coarse fishing and canal-style layouts all in the mix. The official brochure puts the entrance address at Bridge End Road, Henlow, SG16 6DD. That’s the address to work from rather than treating a general venue map pin as your fishing peg.
Jordan’s is the obvious starting point if carp are your thing. It covers 4.9 acres and has two central islands, so there are proper named features to weigh up when choosing your water. The fishery advertises predominantly carp, with fish to 25–30lb, alongside tench to 5lb. Those are advertised sizes, not a promise of a lump on your next visit. Still, it’s the standout option here for anglers whose priority is the bigger carp.
Vincent’s takes things in a more mixed direction. At 1.55 acres, it has eight single swims and eight double swims, including disabled-access provision. The advertised mix runs through rudd, roach, bream, gudgeon and crucians, plus common and mirror carp to 15lb. That gives it a different brief from Jordan’s: more species variety, with carp still very much part of the picture. Double swims are a useful detail if you’re weighing up a shared outing.
Roger’s and Younger’s are the canal-style alternatives. Roger’s has 16 accessible swims and railed double platforms, while Younger’s has nine double platforms and is designed for younger or supervised anglers. Both carry crucians, chub, rudd, roach, bream, gudgeon and perch. That’s a cracking spread for anyone more interested in a mixed coarse session than chasing the biggest carp. The platform arrangements are worth noting too, especially when the practical side of a day matters as much as the fishing.
Booking needs a little thought before you chuck the tackle in the boot. Big-lake day and night fishing must be booked online before midnight for the following day, and the venue names GoCatch as its official fishing booking partner. Canal-lake tickets work differently: they’re sold in the shop after 09:00, first come, first served. Gates open at 08:00 and early arrivals aren’t allowed, so turning up extra early won’t get you round that bit.
The main faff is the published timing clash. The dedicated rules page gives day tickets as 08:00–19:30, but the angling page also says to leave before 16:30. Check before travelling. Night tickets run from 08:00 until 07:30 the next morning, with arrival by 16:00. Directory prices also need confirming against the current tariff. Fishing is advertised year-round, though winter maintenance can mean closures, and the river is seasonal. Finally, pack the mandatory net and mat, dip your net, and leave bank sticks and rod rests at home.

How we'd fish Jordan's Lake
carp
Light baiting tight to the island margins
Carp patrol the island margins on most venues. A handful of bait right on the edge often beats a heavy bed in open water, especially later in the day.
- Walk the bank first and look for bubbling, swirls or coloured water by the cover.
- Bait two or three spots with a few handfuls of chopped and whole boilies.
- Lower or flick the rig in quietly and back your line off with a back lead.
- Keep the drag set tight-ish — fish hooked by cover need turning quickly.
tench
Method or maggot feeder for tench
Tench love margins and weedy patches. A feeder puts a small, tight patch of bait right by the hookbait.
- Fish 10–20 yards out, or tight to the cover where it's safe to land fish.
- Recast every 10–15 minutes early on to build the swim.
- Short hooklink with a dead red maggot, corn or a 8mm wafter.
tench
Lift method float for tench
Tench feed with their heads down and tip baits up — the lift method shows that bite as the float rising and lying flat.
- Fish the margin at dawn with a straight waggler, locked by a single big shot 2–3in from the hook.
- Rake or lightly bait the swim with hemp, corn and maggot.
- Strike when the float lifts or lies flat. Bread, corn or worm on a size 12–14.

Bait, rigs & seasons
How we'd fish Vincent's Lake
carp
A neat lead-clip rig over a light scattering of bait
When you don't know the lake well yet, the simplest approach is the best start: a reliable bottom bait rig on a clean spot, with just enough bait to get a bite without filling them up.
- Feel the lead down to find a firm spot, then clip up so you hit it every cast.
- Fish a single boilie or wafter with 20–30 freebies around it.
- Leave one rod roving and recast it to showing fish.
rudd
Floating baits and shallow float for rudd
Rudd feed high in the water, often near reeds and lilies on warm days. Fish up in the water to them, not on the bottom.
- A light waggler set 1–2ft deep with a single maggot or caster on a size 18.
- Loose-feed little and often to bring them up.
- Floating bread flake works brilliantly in summer.
roach
Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.
bream
Waggler and groundbait for bream
If they're within waggler range, float fishing over balls of groundbait is a great way to pick off bream.
- Ball in groundbait with casters and chopped worm at the start.
- Set the float a touch over-depth and watch for slow lifts.
- Top up when bites slow.

crucian

Crucian bites are tiny dips and lifts, so a sensitive float shotted right down is what catches them.

Tips & guides worth reading
How we'd fish each lake
Our own suggestions, worked out from each lake's features, its main fish and the venue rules. They're tried-and-tested methods, not reports from this venue, so watch the water and ask in the tackle shop on the day.
Jordan's Lake
Vincent's Lake
Roger's
crucian
Delicate float for crucians
Crucian bites are tiny dips and lifts, so a sensitive float shotted right down is what catches them.
- Fish a small insert waggler or pole float over-depth by an inch.
- Corn, maggot or a 4mm pellet on a size 16–18.
- Strike at any small movement — crucians rarely bury the float.
chub
Bread or worm tight to cover for chub
Chub sit under overhanging trees and snags and are cautious, so a quiet approach and a natural bait near cover catches them.
- Bread flake or lobworm on a size 8 hook with a link leger.
- Keep low and quiet on the bank.
- In summer, try a free-lined slug or floating crust.

Our take on the feedback
Our read
Checked Sept '26 — “Henlow Bridge Lakes gives you four very different coarse-fishing options, from Jordan’s carp to the accessible canal-style lakes, plus seasonal fishing on the River Hiz. There’s plenty of choice, but check the closing time and current tariff before loading the car.”
This is our own summary of recurring public feedback and the venue details we checked, not a copied customer review or a promise you’ll catch. Feedback changes, so we keep it separate from the Tackle Index score.
