E Section (part of OBAS D and E Sections)

The E Section is part of OBAS’s D and E Sections on the River Great Ouse, running along the boat channel between the river and the lock feeding the Triangle’s Lock Cut. It’s a quiet, rarely fished bit of water, mainly because getting there means a proper walk from the car park.

The lowdown

  • This is a tucked-away stretch running from beyond Grafham Pumping Station to Black Overfalls Weir Pool, with the E Section forming part of OBAS’s wider D and E water.
  • Access is via the OBAS Main Car Park off Station Lane in Offord Cluny, then a substantial stroll along the Ouse Valley Way. It’s not a quick hop from the motor.
  • The route takes you past the Old Flour Mill and Mill Stream bridge, then on beyond Black Overfalls Weir Pool and New Cut. After a concrete bridge and a small wooden bridge, you’ll reach the river gate.
  • The council maintains the path alongside the river, which is handy, but the walk is still the main reason this section sees relatively little angling pressure.
  • OBAS doesn’t maintain the swims here. Be ready to cut or prepare your own spot, rather than expecting a neat line of established pegs.
  • The water sits on the boat channel between the River Great Ouse and the lock feeding the Triangle’s Lock Cut. That should give you plenty to look at around the channel and lock influence.
  • The stretch has produced good bream, plus chub and pike. A feeder approach for bream and a bit of searching around cover or flow for chub are the obvious starting points.
  • The opposite bank is fished by the London Anglers Association, so make sure you’re clear on which bank your rights cover before settling in.
  • It’s a proper carry-your-kit kind of venue. Travel light, sort your swim carefully and keep everything tidy, especially with the Ouse Valley Way running alongside the river.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: Feeder fishing is the obvious play for the bream, while trotting or light ledgering can suit chub where the flow and crease give you a chance. Pike anglers should fish with a wire trace and stay alert to the boat-channel water.
