The full rundown on Nine Oaks Fishery

Nine Oaks Fishery sits at Craigfryn, Oakford, near Llanarth in Ceredigion. It’s roughly 4 miles from Aberaeron and about 5 miles from New Quay, so a handy West Wales option if you’re after a day on the bank.

There are six lakes altogether. Three are coarse and carp waters, while Derwen, Weir and Pallen are trout lakes. For coarse anglers, the Main Lake, House Lake and Novices Lake give you a decent spread of options, from a small beginners’ pool to carp lakes holding fish into the low-to-mid 20lb range.

The Main Lake is about 1.25 acres and averages 4–5 feet deep. The House Lake is around 0.5 acres, with roughly 10 feet in the centre and about 4 feet down the margins. That changing depth should give you a few lines to explore, especially when the fish are tucked into the edges.

Carp are the main draw, with common, mirror, ghost, golden, koi and grass carp among the varieties listed. There are also roach, bream, skimmers, tench, chub and barbel, so it’s not just a lump-hunting job. The Novices Lake is a small beginners’ pool, with the centre running around 6–8 feet deep.

The coarse fishing is completely no-kill, and tickets allow fishing on any coarse lake. A one-rod adult day ticket is £10, or £12 for two rods, with an under-12s junior ticket at £6. Day tickets are normally bought on arrival, though it’s worth contacting the fishery for current availability.

The trout side is fly-only, with rainbow, blue, tiger and brown trout listed. Trout range from approximately 1.5lb to 10.5lb, and the fishery identifies rainbow and blue trout as available for the table. Barbless hooks are required, and fish should be unhooked quickly in the water.

The venue is open all year from dawn until dusk, with night fishing available by prior arrangement. There’s a central car park, accessible banks or pegs, toilets, an anglers’ lodge and an on-site tackle shop. Self-catering accommodation is also available, with catch-and-release fishing included for residents. A pretty bob-on setup for a relaxed session, a first coarse trip or a cheeky trout day.
