The full rundown on Gwinear Camping and Fishing
Gwinear Camping and Fishing is at Gwinear Farm, Cubert, just outside Newquay. The setup is nice and straightforward: two lakes, two different sorts of session. Specimen is the one for a focused carp trip, while Pleasure brings carp and mixed coarse fish into the picture. That gives you a useful choice before you’ve even loaded the car, whether you’re thinking about a potential PB or a day with more species to aim at.
Specimen is limited to six anglers, with carp described by the fishery as approaching 40lb. Proper lumps, then, and the kit requirements reflect that. You can use up to three rods, but this isn’t a turn-up-with-a-small-net job. A 42-inch net, stiff-arm sling, large mat or cradle and carp-care kit are required. Anglers must be at least 16, and advance booking is available by phone or through Catch.
Pleasure takes a different tack. Carp reach 20lb, alongside bream, tench, perch, rudd and roach, so there’s more than one species to build your day around. Adults can fish a maximum of two rods, and landing nets are supplied. The level paths and two extra-large accessible platforms are worth noting too. Those are practical details that can matter far more than a flashy description when you’re choosing somewhere to spend the day.
The lakes operate year-round, but don’t read that as unrestricted access every day. Winter Mondays are closed, and Specimen’s daytime finish changes between summer and winter. Pleasure has its own daytime hours, while Specimen offers day, night and 24-hour tickets. Get the right session sorted before travelling, especially for a winter trip. With only six angler places on Specimen, sorting that booking first is the sensible move rather than leaving it to chance.
There’s a tackle shop on site stocking carp, coarse and sea-fishing equipment, and tickets must be bought there before fishing. Free on-site parking keeps that part simple. The bait rules are worth checking before packing your bag: nuts and meat are prohibited. Pleasure requires barbless hooks; Specimen allows barbless or microbarbed hooks and requires at least 10lb line. Specimen fish-handling equipment must also be dipped before you start. Best get all that bob on before setting up.
Camping makes Gwinear an option for a longer Cornwall break as well as a single session. Campsite facilities include heated toilets, showers, an accessible bathroom and a laundrette; don’t assume those are automatically day-ticket amenities. Campers receive a 50% discount on Pleasure fishing, which is a handy extra. The overall choice is clear: book Specimen for a dedicated carp session, or pick Pleasure for its mixed species, supplied nets and accessible platforms.

- Feel the lead down to find a firm spot, then clip up so you hit it every cast.
- Fish a single boilie or wafter with 20–30 freebies around it.
- Leave one rod roving and recast it to showing fish.
