Nutford Farm
The lowdown
- The venue runs through three fields adjoining France Farm upstream, giving you a decent bit of water to explore rather than just a short run of pegs.
- Fishing is from the true left bank, opposite Bryanston Wood. It’s a proper rural stretch with access across the fields.
- Upstream, the river is typically 4–6 feet deep and has faster flows. That should suit anglers looking for a bit more pace and movement.
- As you work downstream, the river gradually gets deeper, reaching around 8–10 feet. A handy change of character if the shallower water isn’t playing ball.
- Bream and tench occasionally show downstream, so don’t overlook the deeper water. Roach, dace, chub, pike and perch are among the other named fish.
- BDAC uses Nutford Farm for most of its matches, and the venue is also popular with pleasure anglers. The club says it can produce good bags on suitable days.
- Access is through the gate at Little Nutford. Park on the grass verge by the gate, then walk across the field to the bank.
- The second and third fields are reached either by walking upstream along the riverbank or via the farm track behind the cottages. Be considerate to the residents.
- Keep your eyes open around the access route: livestock and large farm machinery share access on most club venues. A bit of care and common sense goes a long way.
Methods: The quicker, shallower upstream water and deeper downstream swims give you plenty to work with. Match-style approaches and pleasure tactics can both come into play, depending on the conditions and where the fish are sitting.
