The full rundown on Wellington Country Park Fishery

Wellington Country Park Fishing Syndicate sits on Odiham Road, Riseley, Berkshire, close to the Hampshire boundary. It was established in 2001 by Laurie Tucker and is fishing syndicate territory rather than a normal day-ticket setup.

The main lake is the headline act for carp anglers. The official website says it holds seven carp over 50 lb, including Belgian Blue heart-tailed mirrors. Pretty Sutton regularly exceeds 50 lb and first passed the 50 lb mark in 2024, while Pretty Mirror and Willow are reported as approaching, but not exceeding, 60 lb.

That gives the place a clear big-fish angle. The target is lumps, not a quick bag-up session, and the rules are geared around careful carp handling. Retaining fish is not allowed, and fish must be returned as soon as possible, or within 10 minutes if they are being weighed or photographed.

The smaller lake is also part of the syndicate, but access is more restricted. Anglers need to contact the Head Bailiff before using most swims, and the South Bank swims beside reception are closed to fishing. Signs must be followed too, with no fishing on prohibited areas such as the Picnic Bank.

There is plenty to keep organised. Members can use two boats, although boats must be operated by two people and life jackets are compulsory. The fishery provides retaining slings, unhooking mats, a fish-care hut, toilets and a Fisherman's Hut, while members bring their own landing nets and carp-care kits.

There is no public annual membership price or standard day-ticket price published. Applications and the waiting list are currently closed until further notice, so this is one to keep an eye on rather than a venue for turning up on the off chance. Guest visits are possible only within the rules and must be confirmed with the Head Bailiff.

The 2026/27 rules set a published closed season from 5 November 2026 to 13 February 2027 inclusive, with both lakes also closing for roughly three weeks during spawning. Night fishing is allowed through the open season, subject to the park's access restrictions. Properly read the rules before planning a session; there is a fair bit to check, but the big-carp appeal is obvious.
