The full rundown on Mere Beck Fisheries

Mere Beck Fly Fishing is on Mere Lane, Mere Brow, close to Tarleton and Southport. It’s a trout fishery built around fly fishing, so this isn’t a chuck-a-method-and-wait sort of place. The ticket is aimed at anglers wanting a proper few hours with a fly rod, casting to trout from the bank and figuring out what the water is doing.

The fishery is made up of eight pools, all different sizes and interconnected. Water is supplied by a pump-fed recirculation system, while the upper pool is gravity-fed through the others. That gives the site a bit more going on than one basic pond, with several areas to look at and different water to work from the bank. The fishery covers approximately 12.9 acres, according to a 2025/26 property listing.

Rainbow, brown and blue trout are listed at the fishery. Brown trout must be returned, while the published £20 session ticket includes one fish. You’ll also need to complete a catch-record card and hand it back before leaving. Worth keeping that bit of admin in mind before packing up, especially if you’re keen to get away without a last-minute faff.

Fishing is split into morning and afternoon sessions. Mornings are listed as 08:30-13:00, with afternoons running 13:30-18:00. The wider published opening period is 08:00-18:00 or sunset, whichever comes first. Pre-booking and pre-payment are required, with a maximum of eight anglers per session. Booking instructions say to email your name, chosen date and preferred session.

It’s fly-only, with barbless or de-barbed hooks required, and wading isn’t permitted. So bring a suitable fly setup, a knotless landing net and enough layers for a few hours on the bank. With no stepping into the water, the key is reading the margins, spotting movement and covering likely trout lanes from your peg. If it’s a first visit, it’s worth asking what flies have been working, where anglers have been finding fish and whether any parts of the pools are fishing better on the day.

Facilities listed include a car park, reception, male and female toilets and two lakeside timber cabins. Juniors must be accompanied by an adult, dogs aren’t permitted and an Environment Agency rod-fishing licence for non-migratory trout is required. One important check before setting off: Mere Beck Limited entered voluntary liquidation in March-April 2026, so current operation and availability should be confirmed before travel.
