The full rundown on Stanwell Moor Lakes

Stanwell Moor Lakes is the fishing name commonly linked with Hithermoor Flood Relief Lake, near Stanwell Moor in Surrey. It’s close to the M25 Junction 14 area, with the nearest published access postcode listed as TW19 6AT. Worth double-checking the map before setting off, mind, as it shouldn’t be confused with Stanwell Moor Recreation Ground or the nearby water-supply reservoirs.

The lake was created roughly 30 years ago for flood-relief purposes and is connected to the River Colne. Fish originally migrated in from the river, with natural recruitment developing as well. So, rather than being a simple stock pond, it has that more established coarse-water feel. Reported species include carp, pike, tench, roach and perch, giving you a decent few options depending on how you like to fish.

At around 2–3 acres, it’s a manageable-looking bit of water, but there’s still plenty to study. The lake is tree-lined and reed-lined, with six small wooded islands creating obvious features to investigate. Depths run from roughly 2ft in the margins down to about 17ft in the deeper areas. On a first visit, take a good look before chucking out. Check the island edges, reed lines, margins and any changes in depth, then make your decision rather than automatically fishing the middle.

There are approximately 20 swims, and some have purpose-built level areas suitable for bivvies. Vehicle access is available to most swims, with parking on hard concrete standing inside the gated fishery. The drive-and-drop/collect-tackle setup should keep the heavy lifting and faff down, although it’s still worth packing sensibly and checking exactly how the access system works before arriving. A barrow, basic feature-finding kit and enough tackle for both shallow and deeper water would be a sensible starting point.

This is a private angling lake controlled by Bath Road Piscatorial Society. Fishing is offered by season ticket rather than an advertised day ticket, and access is through a locked gate from Hithermoor Road, so prior permission or membership is required. There’s no current public day-ticket or season-ticket price listed, and no official opening hours, booking calendar, annual season or night-fishing policy published. Give BRPS a proper check before planning the trip and ask about membership, access, allowed hours and any current venue rules.

The reported carp can exceed 30lb, while tench are reported to reach around 8lb, so there’s a proper chance of a cracking target fish. At the same time, roach and perch offer more active coarse-fishing options, with pike also present. Boats aren’t permitted, bait boats are reported as permitted, barbless hooks are reported as required and keepnets are reported as not permitted. Dogs aren’t confirmed as permitted, so ask first. A tidy, adaptable approach should be bob on here: arrive prepared, keep disturbance down and let the lake show you what it’s doing.

We're not sure on ticket prices here — we couldn't find reliable, up-to-date prices online, so give the fishery a ring or check their own site before you go.
