The full rundown on Wold Farm Fisheries

Wold Farm Fisheries sits on Airfield Road, Podington, Wellingborough, NN29 7XA. The estate offers year-round fishing across three coarse and match lakes, plus a separate specimen lake. That gives you a proper choice: a mixed-species day on a peg, or a session aimed at carp and catfish. The important bit is choosing your lake before you arrive, rather than assuming you can wander between waters once you’ve got your gear out.

Oaks is approximately two acres, with one island and 28 pegs. Its mix includes mirror, common and ghost carp alongside barbel, bream, roach, rudd and tench. Islands is smaller at approximately one acre, but packs in six islands and 12 pegs. There’s plenty of variety in its species list too, including koi, golden orfe, golden tench and goldfish. If you like a mixed bag rather than a single-species mission, those lists give you plenty to think about.

Moat sits between those two for size: approximately one and a half acres, three islands and 18 pegs. Carp, tench, crucians, bream, barbel, chub and roach are listed. Across the coarse lakes, islands are the obvious named features to consider when choosing a water. We haven’t fished here, though, so there’s no pretending we know a banker peg, a productive margin or which line will have you bagged up. Features are a starting point, not a catch guarantee.

Wold Lake is the specimen option, with approximately two acres, two islands and six swims. Its dedicated page lists carp over 30 lb and catfish over 40 lb — the fishery’s own claim, rather than a promise of a PB. Day and overnight tickets cover two rods. Booking works differently here: you need to call or text Dax, not use the online coarse-lake booking options. It also has its own tackle and bait restrictions, so don’t simply transfer your match-lake setup.

There’s a café for signing in and out, a tackle shop, and fishery-provided fish-care equipment. On the coarse lakes, using the supplied nets and unhooking mats is compulsory; bring your own handles and bank sticks. Loose-feed pellets and groundbait must be bought from the fishery, although your own pellet hookbaits are allowed. That’s worth sorting before loading the car, especially if your usual bait bag includes meat or fish-based baits, which the coarse-lake rules prohibit.

For a straightforward visit, Oaks, Islands and Moat have online booking options. Islands also allows walk-ins, with booking recommended to guarantee a peg, plus an evening ticket bought at the tackle shop without booking. Check the posted closing time when signing in, and remember that published spring and summer hours aren’t a year-round timetable. Pick the right water, pack to its rules and there should be less faff when you arrive.
