Offord Cluny to Brampton (A, B & C Sections)

A cracking run of the River Great Ouse through Offord Cluny, Buckden and on towards Brampton, split into A, B and C sections. It’s members only, with a proper mix of quicker water, deeper glides and slower river to get your teeth into.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • Access is from the C Section Car Park via Buckden Marina. The postcode given is PE19 5BH, and the track gets you close to the swims — bob on when you’ve got a bit of kit to shift.
  • The marina entrance marks the upstream end of C Section. B and A sections run downstream from there, giving you a decent spread of river to explore.
  • The water changes character. There are faster-flowing streams in places, then wider, deeper and slower stretches where fish can settle and feed.
  • B and C have featured in society matches, so expect swims with a bit of angling history behind them. Reported fish from these sections include roach, perch and pike.
  • Trotting should be well worth a look on the quicker water when conditions are right. Keep an eye on the crease and any steadier inside line.
  • The deeper, slower river lends itself to feeder work and searching the bottom. A bit of colour in the water could make things properly interesting.
  • The wider sections are the places to have a good look for bigger fish. The society lists barbel, bream, carp, chub, tench and zander among catches from its waters.
  • After heavy rain, the C Section track can turn rutted or muddy, so don’t assume the parking approach will stay neat and tidy.
  • You can fish up to three rods, but only one swim at a time. Stay close enough to react promptly to a take — no wandering off for a brew when a rod’s on the munch.
  • Night fishing is for members only. Large fish need an unhooking mat, pike anglers need a wire trace, and the Ouse Valley Way must be kept clear.

Methods: Mix it up to suit the river on the day: trot the faster streams, then switch to feeder tactics in the deeper, slower water. Keep mobile, read the flow and fish the crease rather than just parking on the obvious peg.
