The full rundown on Anglers Paradise

Anglers Paradise is at The Gables, Winsford Lane, near Halwill Junction, Beaworthy, Devon. It’s a proper sprawling venue, with more than 30 lakes across the estate and over four miles of bank fishing. Plenty to go at, then.

The main thing to clock is that the 13 holiday lakes are exclusive to accommodation residents. They’re not available on ordinary day tickets, so the fishing setup depends on whether you’re staying on site or just booking a day-ticket water.

For residents, the budget ticket covers nine lakes and costs £20 for one rod for a week, or £30 for two rods for a week. Fishing is charged separately from the villa accommodation. All-day day-ticket lakes are half price for residents with a budget ticket.

There’s a real mix of fishing. Easy Access Lake has carp to over 20lb, tench, orfe and Wels catfish to about 50lb. Beginners Lake has plenty of carp around 10lb, while Main Carp Lake is aimed at bigger stuff, with numerous carp over 20lb, carp over 30lb and Wels catfish over 80lb.

The day-ticket waters include Eldorado, Nirvana, Shangri-La, Silver Rose, Trout Lake and Valhalla. Eldorado is £10 per day for up to two rods, with night fishing also £10 when the day is booked. Some of the more specialist waters need separate booking or payment, including Specimen Carp, Easy Cat, Specimen Tench & Orfe and Koi Lake.

It’s a family-friendly setup too, with reception, an on-site tackle shop, toilets, laundry, a bar, swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, games room and children’s play area. Concrete paths and purpose-built pagoda shelters give disabled anglers priority at six lakes. Parking is in designated areas, though vehicles can’t be driven down to the lakes.

The rules are straightforward but worth reading before you chuck in. Barbless hooks are required, it’s catch-and-release only, and bait boats, drones, leadcore and barbed hooks are banned. Night fishing must be booked or paid for separately, and no tackle or bait can be left overnight unless the night has been paid for. A cracking choice if you want loads of options in one estate, especially with the family in tow.
