The full rundown on Newland Hall Fishery

Newland Hall Fishery sits on Newland Hall Country Estate at Roxwell, Chelmsford, CM1 4LH. There are four fishing lakes covering approximately 10 acres between them, so this isn't just one water trying to suit everyone. You've got a choice between carp fishing, mixed coarse sessions and match-friendly lakes. The useful bit is that each lake has a different role, making it easier to pick somewhere that fits your day.

Brook is the biggest by peg count, with 50 pegs and common and mirror carp advertised to 30lb+, alongside roach and perch. That's the one to look at if you want a mixed-species water with some proper carp potential. Moat has 30 pegs, common and mirror carp, plus roach. Its fish average smaller than Brook's, and it's specifically suited to match and pleasure fishing rather than just chasing lumps.

Park keeps things smaller, with 15 pegs, carp and roach, and a stated fit for pleasure fishing and small matches. Osiers goes in a different direction: eight swims and common and mirror carp advertised at 15–35lb. That makes it the obvious lake to consider for a more focused carp session. There's an important age restriction, though: anglers under 16 aren't permitted on Osiers, so choose your water before loading everyone's kit.

Ordinary visits don't need booking. Swims are first come, first served, and tickets are issued bankside. Nice and straightforward, but check existing bookings before travelling because Moat, Park and Osiers can be reserved. Fishing runs around the clock, although that doesn't mean you can arrive whenever you fancy. Entry has its own restricted hours, departure is possible anytime, and ticket periods finish at noon or six in the evening rather than six in the morning.

The practical side looks handy: parking, drinking water, a snack bar and bait-and-tackle facilities are advertised. Toilets sit beside the car-park tackle outlet, with another at Brook's far end. Don't plan on unloading straight into your swim, though. Vehicles must stay in the designated fishing car park, and lakeside vehicle access isn't allowed. Bankside payment is cash only, with exact money required, so sort that before you head over and save yourself the faff.

Pack with the rules in mind, too. Barbless hooks, a suitable landing net and an unhooking mat are mandatory, and all fish go back. Leaders are banned; the stated setup is rig tubing and safety lead clips only. Bait boats and nuts are out as well. What you get is a clear choice of lakes and some important session details to get bob on.
