Power Station — River Trent and upper Trent Dyke, Farndon

Run by Newark and District Piscatorial Federation · checked 3 Oct 2026

The lowdown

  • There are two bits of water to choose from here: the non-tidal Trent and upper Trent Dyke. The first 14 pegs sit on the Trent, with the remaining 22 on the Dyke — worth knowing before you unload the kit.
  • Winter is worth keeping in your diary. The Federation describes good winter fishing here, so this isn't just one to think about when the sun's out and the banks look inviting.
  • Raised levels don't automatically put this stretch out of the picture. The Federation says it remains fishable because the main flow passes over the opposite weir. That's a useful feature, though not a promise that every river condition is safe.
  • The named fish are roach, skimmers, bream, chub, perch and barbel. That gives you plenty to think about when packing tackle, whether you fancy a session for smaller fish or an approach aimed at bream or barbel.
  • Getting there is fairly straightforward: take Long Lane from Fosse Road, go straight at the mini-roundabout and follow the track towards the power station. Once you reach the river, Federation water is right; Notts AA water is left.
  • You can park behind the pegs, which should save some barrow faff. Keep the track clear, though. The pegs have stone surfacing, another handy practical detail when you're sorting out your fishing spot.
  • Peg 35 has a disabled platform, approached over gently sloping banks. For session planning, day tickets cover dawn to dusk; Full and Associate Members may fish until 10:30pm throughout the season. Night fishing itself is prohibited.

Methods: A feeder approach is worth considering for the named bream and barbel, with float tackle another option for roach and perch. Pick your presentation to suit the flow and level on the day rather than committing before you've seen your peg.
