Underdale — BAA
Underdale is a cracking near-mile stretch of the River Severn at Shrewsbury, running either side of Telford Bridge. It’s right-bank fishing under BAA, with proper coarse-fishing credentials and salmon also noted by the club.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a long Severn stretch, with almost a mile of water to explore either side of Telford Bridge. Plenty of room to find your own bit of river.
- The BAA describes the water as having excellent coarse fishing. Barbel, bream and chub are all named among the fish caught here.
- Specimen-sized carp have also been caught, so there’s a cheeky bonus target among the more traditional Severn species.
- The river is also noted for salmon catches. That gives the stretch a bit of extra character beyond the usual feeder and trotting game.
- Fishing is on the right bank only. Worth getting that bit straight before you tackle up, as the opposite bank isn’t included in the stated access.
- For a Severn session, keep an eye on the flow and any colour in the water. Trotting and feeder work are the obvious ways to cover the swims, depending on conditions.
- Barbel and chub are the sort of fish to look for in the stronger runs, while bream may show in steadier areas. Carp are the wildcard if you’re set up for them.
- Access is from Monkmoor Road via Telford Way to Telford Bridge. There’s a lay-by near the traffic island for parking.
- The published BAA coordinates are 52.720696, -2.730108. Handy for getting your bearings before the faff of finding the right approach.
- Night fishing is prohibited at Underdale, so this one is strictly a daytime job. Keep the kit legal, return all fish and leave the place tidy.
Methods: Trotting and feeder fishing are the natural starting points, with stronger-flow swims worth a look for barbel and chub. The right approach will depend on river conditions and how much colour is pushing through.
