The full rundown on Weston Park Fishing Lakes
Weston Park Fishery sits at Weston Park near Weston-under-Lizard, Shropshire. The lake was created in 1812 and designed by Capability Brown, so you’re fishing in a proper bit of parkland history here. RH Fisheries has managed the lake since 1999.
This is a carp syndicate water rather than a standard walk-up day-ticket lake. Open access is offered for six weeks from mid-April to the end of May each season, with bookings exclusive to groups of up to eight anglers. That booking includes exclusive use of the fishery and boathouse.
The lake has 15 swims, finished with bark chippings and pinned with tree trunks. Average depth is approximately 3 feet, dropping to around 6 feet near the outlet. That’s a shallow, feature-led sort of setup where margins, depth changes and careful watercraft should be right in the mix.
The headline is the carp. The fishery reportedly holds about 250 large carp, with more than 150 said to exceed 20 lb. Reported average weight is approximately 24 lb, and the stock is around 60% mirrors and 40% commons. Reported best fish include a 39 lb 8 oz mirror and commons to 40 lb 8 oz and 39 lb 8 oz.
Boilies are the preferred bait, but there’s an important catch: RH Baits are required under the current published rules. Three rods are allowed, while braid is restricted to marker or spod rods. No boats are allowed, and chest waders are only for photographing fish — not for wading rigs out.
The Grade II listed boathouse was built in 1812 and is a proper bonus for exclusive bookings. It has central heating, a shower, washroom, separate toilet, kitchen, cooker, fridge, bait freezer, twin-bed bedroom and a patio overlooking the lake. Basic porter toilets are provided during open access, with an outside drinking-water tap near the boathouse.
This is a venue for anglers after a proper carp campaign rather than a casual few hours and a mixed bag. The open-access window is tight, availability needs arranging with RH Fisheries by phone or email, and the rules are detailed. Get the kit bob on, stick to the bait and rig restrictions, and you could be fishing a very special old lake with some serious lumps in it.
We're not sure on ticket prices here — we couldn't find reliable, up-to-date prices online, so give the fishery a ring or check their own site before you go.

How we'd fish Weston Park Fishery lake
carp
Zigs in the warmer months
In clear, deep water carp often sit up in the layers on warm days. A zig is the only way to get a bait in front of them.
- Start at half depth and move up or down a foot at a time until you get bites.
- Black or foam hookbaits work well on bright days.
- Keep it simple — no freebies needed.
carp
Chod or helicopter style over soft weed and silt
Where the bottom drops in and out of holes or there might be soft silt or weed, a pop-up that slides up the leader sits over the muck instead of disappearing into it — no need to find a perfectly clean spot.
- Single pop-up, 2–3in off the bottom.
- Fish it as a single hookbait or with a light scattering of freebies — a big bed defeats the point.
- Cast to likely holes and let the lead settle; don't drag it back.
carp
A bigger bed of bait at range
On wide, open water the fish move about a lot — a decent bed of bait at range holds a passing group long enough to get a bite.
- Find a clean, hard spot with a marker float and clip up so every cast lands on it.
- Spread the bait with a spod or throwing stick — little and often.
- Mix boilies, pellet and particles so there's always something left for the fish to graze.
- Match the hookbait to the freebies.
