Burton-on-Trent, Municipal (23 pegs) — Coors Angling Club
The Municipal is a 23-swim, single-bank urban River Trent stretch run by Coors Angling Club. It’s flood-defended, shallow and weedy in places, with a deeper inside channel that can fish nicely for chub, dace and grayling.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is proper urban Trent fishing, with raised flood defences and fishing from one bank only. The opposite bank is awkward to reach, so settle into the club side and fish what’s in front of you.
- There are 23 permanently pegged swims, although seasonal weed growth can affect how much room you’ve got. Keep to the marked pegs rather than wandering off-piste.
- The upper section is wide, shallow and weedy for much of its width. Don’t write it off, though — the deeper, weed-free inside channel is the key feature.
- That inside line can produce chub, dace and grayling. A float trotted through the crease is a cracking shout when the flow is carrying a bit of colour.
- Chub, roach and perch are named targets, with barbel and pike also on the club’s list. There’s a decent spread of options depending on conditions and water levels.
- Peg 1 sits immediately below a pipe bridge, giving that end a clear bit of structure to explore. The rest of the stretch is more about picking out the deeper lines among the weed.
- A light feeder can work when the river’s pushing, while float tackle suits the shallower glides and inside channel. Keep it tidy and accurate — no need to launch half the Trent.
- Pegs 1–13 are best reached from the Washlands Club main gate via Meadow Road. The access may be combination-locked outside club hours, so sort that faff before setting off.
- Parking is available behind most pegs, but don’t block footpaths or rights of way. Gates must be shut and locks secured, and the 5 mph limit applies on the Municipal stretch and Meadow Road.
Methods: Trotting the deeper inside channel is the natural starting point, especially for chub, dace and grayling. Feeder tactics can come into play when the flow increases, while the weedier shallows need tidy presentation and accurate casting.
