“3.6/10 — The mixed-coarse history has appeal, but unverified reopening and likely partial restocking limit confidence in fishing today.”

The lowdown
First things first, mate: this isn’t a confirmed option for your next day on the bank. Fenn Wright’s sale brochure says Bromeswell Lakes has not operated since 2024, and reopening hasn’t been verified. That matters more than any old ticket listing or tempting lake description. Don’t load the barrow and head over expecting to buy a ticket; you’ll need confirmation that fishing has actually resumed before planning a visit.

The full rundown on Bromeswell Lakes
First things first, mate: this isn’t a confirmed option for your next day on the bank. Fenn Wright’s sale brochure says Bromeswell Lakes has not operated since 2024, and reopening hasn’t been verified. That matters more than any old ticket listing or tempting lake description. Don’t load the barrow and head over expecting to buy a ticket; you’ll need confirmation that fishing has actually resumed before planning a visit.
The fishery sits on School Lane in Bromeswell, near Woodbridge, Suffolk, with IP12 2PX given in the sale particulars. It started life as a trout farm before being converted to coarse fishing. The land and lakes together cover approximately 11.7 acres, but don’t mistake that for water: the combined water area is approximately 3 acres. It’s a compact collection of pools rather than one sprawling lake where you’d be chucking towards the horizon.
The sale brochure describes two main fishing pools and several smaller ponds. Its largest western pool is approximately 1.5 acres, while the canal-style match lake is approximately 0.6 acres; the smaller ponds are each under 0.25 acres. Older fishing listings name Horseshoe Lake, Willow Lake, Hazel Pond and Birch Pond. Those names haven’t been clearly matched to the brochure’s measurements, so we’re not sticking an acreage against a named lake and hoping it’s bob on.
For bank-side detail, Horseshoe historically had 26 pegs and averaged four feet deep. Willow was designed around pole fishing, with up to 13 metres between the bank and its central island. Its historical maximum depth was approximately five feet, with shallow near margins. That gives a useful picture of the old setup, particularly for anyone who enjoys pole work and defined features. It doesn’t tell us what condition the pegs, margins or island swims are in today.
Historically listed fish include carp, bream, perch, roach, rudd and tench, giving Bromeswell a mixed-coarse background rather than a trout-fishing offer today. However, the sale brochure warns that at least partial restocking is likely to be required. Treat those species as the venue’s history, not a promise about what’s currently swimming about. There’s no checked basis here for talking up lumps, predicting a bagging session or suggesting this is somewhere to chase a particular PB.
The practical bits need the same caution. Current hours, season and ticket arrangements aren’t verified, and the fishery’s own website couldn’t be accessed during the check. An old night-fishing mention isn’t current permission to bivvy up, either. Historical rules give useful background on hooks, fish care and marked pegs, but would need confirming if the gates reopen. In short: an interesting former coarse venue, but getting its operating status straight is the first job, well before choosing a swim.
We're not sure on ticket prices here — we couldn't find reliable, up-to-date prices online, so give the fishery a ring or check their own site before you go.

Where is the fishery?
On School Lane, Bromeswell, near Woodbridge, Suffolk. The sale particulars give postcode IP12 2PX.
How much is a ticket?
There’s no verified current ticket price. An undated listing quotes £7 without duration, rod allowance or lake coverage, so don’t budget around it.

Historical listings include carp, bream, perch, roach, rudd and tench. Current stocks aren’t verified, and the sale brochure warns that at least partial restocking is likely to be required.
Where's the nearest tackle shop?

Do I need to bring food?
We haven't seen any food on site, so bring your own grub and drinks. A flask and a stove (where allowed) make a long day much better.

Not that we've seen listed. The fishery doesn't say on what we've checked, so give them a quick call before you set off.
Is there parking, and how close is it to the swims?
Yes — car park referenced in a published grid reference. Walks to the further pegs can be a trek, so a barrow helps.
What's the postcode for the sat nav?

Day tickets are available on Horseshoe Lake, Willow Lake, Hazel Pond, Birch Pond. Busy weekends can fill up, so ring ahead if you've got your heart set on a swim.

Not covered in the rules we've checked. The fishery doesn't say on what we've checked, so give them a quick call before you set off.
Are bait boats allowed?
We haven't seen a bait-boat rule listed. The fishery doesn't say on what we've checked, so give them a quick call before you set off.
Do I need barbless hooks?
It depends — Historical rules required barbless hooks, maximum size 10. Confirm any replacement rules if fishing resumes.
Do I need my own unhooking mat or cradle?
It depends — Both a suitable landing net and an unhooking mat were historically required.
Is it suitable for disabled anglers?
We haven't seen disabled access listed. The fishery doesn't say on what we've checked, so give them a quick call before you set off.
Do I need a rod licence?
Yes — anyone 13 or over fishing in England and Wales needs an Environment Agency rod licence (or Natural Resources Wales in Wales), on top of your fishery ticket.
When's the best time of year to fish here?
Late spring through autumn is prime for most species. Check our live weather edge for this venue before you go — it updates daily.

Horseshoe’s older description gives 26 pegs and an average depth of four feet. That’s useful background on the former layout, but current peg condition and fish stocks haven’t been verified.
Don’t assume the brochure’s 1.5-acre western pool is Horseshoe: that link isn’t established in the checked facts. Fishing access is also unconfirmed, with the venue reported as not operating since 2024; the day-ticket label is not a current ticket offer.

Chod or helicopter style over soft weed and silt
Where the bottom drops in and out of holes or there might be soft silt or weed, a pop-up that slides up the leader sits over the muck instead of disappearing into it — no need to find a perfectly clean spot.

Light baiting tight to the island margins
Carp patrol the island margins on most venues. A handful of bait right on the edge often beats a heavy bed in open water, especially later in the day.
- Walk the bank first and look for bubbling, swirls or coloured water by the cover.
- Bait two or three spots with a few handfuls of chopped and whole boilies.
- Lower or flick the rig in quietly and back your line off with a back lead.
- Keep the drag set tight-ish — fish hooked by cover need turning quickly.

Hazel Pond appears in older Bromeswell fishing listings. There aren’t checked pond-specific details for its depth, pegs, features or fish stocks, so there’s no honest way to recommend a particular approach.

Birch Pond is another name in the historical fishing listings. Beyond that, checked details are thin: there’s no confirmed individual acreage, depth, peg count or species breakdown.
It would be a stretch to call this a beginner pond or a carp option without more information. The whole venue’s reopening is unverified, and the day-ticket label does not confirm present-day access.
