The full rundown on Larford Lakes
Larford Lakes gives you a proper choice of water near Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire. The complex sits on Larford Lane, DY13 0SQ, with three named lakes: Match, Specimen and Arena. There’s River Severn fishing as well, so this isn’t just a case of picking a carp lake and sticking with it. Mixed coarse anglers, match-minded anglers and those planning a longer carp session all have something to look at here.
Match Lake is approximately six acres and has a cracking spread of species on the list. Common and mirror carp share the water with F1s, roach, tench, bream, chub, perch and rudd. That mix is the main draw if you like having more than one target for the day. It’s not simply carp or nothing, which makes this an interesting option for anyone who enjoys a mixed net during a match.
Specimen Lake is the bigger water, at approximately 20 acres. Carp are part of the picture, but so are roach, chub, bream, tench, perch and crucians. Don’t let the name make you overlook that mixed stock. It’s also the lake listed for 24-hour fishing, making it the one to ask about for an overnight session. Night fishing needs prior special arrangement, though, and there’s no confirmed current overnight price here.
Arena is the smallest of the three lakes, with common and mirror carp, bream, roach, rudd, tench and perch listed. Its acreage isn’t published in the checked details. There’s an important bit of homework before you decide what kit to pack: listings disagree about permitted methods on Arena. Get that cleared up directly rather than turning up with a plan you can’t use. Fancy moving water instead? The Severn adds barbel, chub, bream, dace, roach and gudgeon to the options.
Off the bank, the listed facilities are handy: a clubhouse, an 80-seat café, male and female toilets, plus disabled facilities. Running water and standpipes are listed for overnight anglers too. Parking must stay in designated areas. One small navigation point could save a bit of faff: the supplied map coordinates identify the lakes, not necessarily the entrance. Use the Larford Lane address and check your arrival route before setting off, especially for a first trip.
Sort the practical bits before travelling. The listed day-ticket prices are undated, and opening hours conflict, so neither should be treated as a current promise. Bank rules are clearer: no barbed hooks, keepnets only during matches, and nets and slings must be dipped before use. Every carp must be landed with a net. Get those basics bob on, confirm your chosen lake and session arrangements, and you’ll have a much clearer plan for the day.

Match Lake covers approximately six acres. Common carp, mirror carp and F1s feature alongside roach, tench, bream, chub, perch and rudd, giving mixed coarse anglers plenty to take an interest in.

Bait, rigs & seasons
How we'd fish Match Lake
carp
A neat lead-clip rig over a light scattering of bait
When you don't know the lake well yet, the simplest approach is the best start: a reliable bottom bait rig on a clean spot, with just enough bait to get a bite without filling them up.
- Feel the lead down to find a firm spot, then clip up so you hit it every cast.
- Fish a single boilie or wafter with 20–30 freebies around it.
- Leave one rod roving and recast it to showing fish.
roach
Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.
tench
Method or maggot feeder for tench
Tench love margins and weedy patches. A feeder puts a small, tight patch of bait right by the hookbait.
- Fish 10–20 yards out, or tight to the cover where it's safe to land fish.
- Recast every 10–15 minutes early on to build the swim.
- Short hooklink with a dead red maggot, corn or a 8mm wafter.
bream
Waggler and groundbait for bream
If they're within waggler range, float fishing over balls of groundbait is a great way to pick off bream.
- Ball in groundbait with casters and chopped worm at the start.
- Set the float a touch over-depth and watch for slow lifts.
- Top up when bites slow.
