We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- Grimley sits below Holt Fleet Bridge, with the river widening and deepening as you work through the section. Average depth is roughly six to eight feet, so there’s plenty of water to go at.
- The Grimley stretch holds chub and barbel, plus a resident shoal of large bream in the upper reaches. That’s a cracking target for feeder work or a well-presented float.
- Hallow is a mixed fishery below Bevere Weir, split into five sections. BAA names barbel, bream, chub, roach and large pike here, so you never quite know what might steam off.
- There’s enough variety for different approaches. Think trotting and float-fishing for the roach and chub, with feeder tactics a good shout when the river is pushing or you’re after barbel and bream.
- Keep an eye on the flow and look for the crease, steadier edges and any depth changes. Grimley’s extra depth means a tidy feeder presentation can be bob on when the fish are holding off the pace.
- Hallow sections 1–3 are reached by turning towards the Camp Hotel, then using the BAA car park before the hotel. Don’t park in the Camp Hotel car park — that’s a faff you can easily avoid.
- Sections 4–5 are accessed from the A443 via the track beside North Lodge. There’s a BAA car park next to the river, and the access gate must be closed behind you.
- Grimley access runs through Grimley village, past the Wagon Wheel Inn, then down the track to the car park. The Grimley car park postcode is WR2 6LX.
- This is club water rather than a day-ticket venue. Grimley is daytime-only, while Hallow also allows night fishing with the correct permit booked in advance.
Methods: For Grimley, feeder fishing and controlled trotting should cover the deeper Severn water, with barbel, chub and upper-reach bream in mind. At Hallow, mix float and feeder tactics, and switch to proper night gear only if you’ve arranged the night permit.
