Warwickshire Avon
Bredon, Wood End & Mythe Farm
The lowdown
- This is a three-part fishery rather than one single peg-per-mile run: Bredon, Wood End and Mythe Farm all sit within the Birmingham Anglers Association water.
- The Avon here is described as slow and deep, so expect steadier water rather than a rattly, shallow bit of river. Bob on for settling a feeder or float.
- Large shoals of bream are found along the stretch. That is the big draw, especially if you fancy building a session around shoal fish.
- Tench, carp and roach are also named on the stretch, giving you a few different targets when the bream aren’t quite on the munch.
- There’s a proper predator option too, with pike and zander named alongside the barbel. A mixed bag is very much on the cards.
- Bredon access is via Fleet Lane off the B4080. The Bredon car park postcode is GL20 7EF, with the association giving coordinates of 52.027246, -2.139220.
- Wood End has its own car park and is approached from the A38 via the turning signposted Wood End. Its postcode is GL20 6EE.
- Mythe Farm is accessed at GL20 6AA, with parking on the driveway after crossing a cattle grid. Don’t take vehicles onto the riverside meadows.
- There are no day permits here, and night fishing is a firm no. You’ll need Birmingham Anglers Association membership, plus an Environment Agency rod licence, before tackling the water.
Methods: The slow, deep character and big bream shoals make a settled float or feeder approach the obvious starting point. For the named barbel, pike and zander, choose your approach around the target species and keep things tidy on the bank.
