The full rundown on How End Fisheries
How End Fisheries gives you two quite different bits of water to get your teeth into: Yasi’s and Dani’s. This is mixed-coarse and match-style fishing, with more to think about than just carp. The address for your trip is 3 How End Road, Houghton Conquest, Bedford, MK45 3JT. If you’re using the Fishbrain lake pin, bear in mind that it marks the water, not a verified entrance. A small detail, but worth sorting before you load the car.
Yasi’s is the snake lake, with 17 pegs and a far bank reachable with a 13-metre pole. That gives pole anglers a clear feature to work towards rather than a vast expanse of open water. Dani’s has 20 pegs, with island or submerged-island features giving it a different layout. Both lakes were dug to a standard six-foot depth at every peg. Their acreage isn’t published, so peg numbers and those features are the useful things to go on.
There’s a cracking spread of species between the two. Yasi’s has carp, barbel, ide, roach, perch and bream. Dani’s adds tench, golden tench, crucian carp, rudd and chub to its carp, bream, roach and perch mix. The fishery advertises carp around 20lb, barbel to 10lb and ide to 3lb, plus perch to 4lb and roach to 1lb. Those are the venue’s advertised sizes, not a promise that a lump will be waiting in your swim.
A normal day ticket is £11 per person fishing, covering the 08:00–17:00 day. Sharing a peg doesn’t mean sharing a ticket: both anglers pay. Spectators get free entry within reason, which is handy if someone wants to tag along. There are also seven-day and Monday–Friday memberships for 2026–27, including concession options. The season runs April 1–March 31, so it covers the full year rather than just the warmer months.
Here’s the bit to get bob on before setting off: telephone ahead to book a peg and check the official calendar, because the lakes regularly have bookings. Non-members need to arrive while the shop is open to arrange access. On Mondays and Sundays that’s only 08:00–09:00; Tuesday–Saturday it’s 08:00–17:00. Don’t confuse the short shop window with the fishing day. Fishing outside normal hours needs prior agreement with the owner, rather than assuming you can buy a night ticket.
On the practical side, there’s an on-site tackle and bait shop, toilets near the gated car park and a short walk to both lakes without steep slopes or steps. Each lake has dedicated disabled swims beside the parking, plus step-free access to other pegs. Pack with the rules in mind: use the fishery’s landing nets, leave personal nets at home and bring genuinely barbless hooks no bigger than size 12. Braided line and hooklengths are out too.

Do I need a rod licence?
Yes — anyone 13 or over fishing in England and Wales needs an Environment Agency rod licence (or Natural Resources Wales in Wales), on top of your fishery ticket.

Yasi’s is the one to look at if you like a defined far-bank target. It’s a 17-peg snake lake, and the opposite bank is reachable with a 13-metre pole. It was dug to a standard six-foot depth at all pegs.
The mix includes carp, barbel and ide alongside roach, perch and bream, so it isn’t purely a carp proposition. Dedicated disabled swims sit beside the car park, with step-free access to the other pegs. Ring ahead rather than banking on a spare swim.

Bait, rigs & seasons
How we'd fish Yasi’s
carp
A neat lead-clip rig over a light scattering of bait
When you don't know the lake well yet, the simplest approach is the best start: a reliable bottom bait rig on a clean spot, with just enough bait to get a bite without filling them up.
- Feel the lead down to find a firm spot, then clip up so you hit it every cast.
- Fish a single boilie or wafter with 20–30 freebies around it.
- Leave one rod roving and recast it to showing fish.
barbel
Pellet and boilie for the lake barbel
Lake barbel feed hard and fight harder. Use a strong rod and line, and rest them properly in the net before release.
- Halibut pellet or small boilie over a bed of pellet.
- Strong hooklink and a size 10–12 hook.
- Never hold barbel out of water long — keep them in the net until they've recovered.
roach
Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.
perch
Worm or small lure for the perch
Perch hang round cover, boats and drop-offs. A lobworm on a light float, or a small lure worked along the features, will find them.
- Fish lobworm under a float tight to cover.
- On lures, try a small drop shot or soft shad near features.
- Feed chopped worm to keep them in the swim.

Dani’s: twenty pegs, island features and a proper mixed bag

Dani’s has 20 pegs, with island or submerged-island features rather than Yasi’s snake layout. Like its neighbour, it was dug to a standard six-foot depth at every peg. Acreage isn’t published.
There’s plenty of species variety here: carp share the lake with tench, golden tench, crucians, rudd, bream, chub, roach and perch. That makes it an appealing choice if a mixed bag is your thing. Dedicated disabled swims are beside the car park, and other pegs have step-free access.

Bait, rigs & seasons
How we'd fish Dani’s
carp
Light baiting tight to the island margins
Carp patrol the island margins on most venues. A handful of bait right on the edge often beats a heavy bed in open water, especially later in the day.
- Walk the bank first and look for bubbling, swirls or coloured water by the cover.
- Bait two or three spots with a few handfuls of chopped and whole boilies.
- Lower or flick the rig in quietly and back your line off with a back lead.
- Keep the drag set tight-ish — fish hooked by cover need turning quickly.
tench
Lift method float for tench
Tench feed with their heads down and tip baits up — the lift method shows that bite as the float rising and lying flat.
- Fish the margin at dawn with a straight waggler, locked by a single big shot 2–3in from the hook.
- Rake or lightly bait the swim with hemp, corn and maggot.
- Strike when the float lifts or lies flat. Bread, corn or worm on a size 12–14.
crucian
Delicate float for crucians
Crucian bites are tiny dips and lifts, so a sensitive float shotted right down is what catches them.
- Fish a small insert waggler or pole float over-depth by an inch.
- Corn, maggot or a 4mm pellet on a size 16–18.
- Strike at any small movement — crucians rarely bury the float.
rudd
Floating baits and shallow float for rudd
Rudd feed high in the water, often near reeds and lilies on warm days. Fish up in the water to them, not on the bottom.
- A light waggler set 1–2ft deep with a single maggot or caster on a size 18.
- Loose-feed little and often to bring them up.
- Floating bread flake works brilliantly in summer.
