The full rundown on Whitemoor Lakes

Whitemoor Lakes is a day-ticket coarse fishery at Holt, near Wimborne in Dorset, BH21 7DA. Established in 1994, it gives you five named waters to choose from: Main Lake, Canal Lake, Chester’s Lake, Little Chester’s Pool and Old Stock Pond. That’s a proper choice of settings, from a horseshoe-shaped lake with six islands to a little pool with just three spacious pegs. The important bit? Choose your water carefully, because moving between lakes isn’t allowed.

Main Lake is the biggest water with a published size here: 2.5 acres, six islands and 45 pegs. Those islands give you features to think about when choosing a swim, rather than simply staring across open water. Common, mirror and ghost carp share it with crucians, tench, perch, roach, rudd, bream, gudgeon, golden orfe, chub and eel. If your idea of a cracking day is not knowing quite which species will turn up next, this is a strong starting point.

Canal Lake brings another broad species mix, with 20 swims and carp, perch, tench, bream, crucians, roach, rudd, eel, barbel and chub. Chester’s takes things down to half an acre, with one island and 17 pegs; its line-up includes common, mirror, ghost and koi carp alongside green and golden tench. Little Chester’s Pool has three spacious pegs for carp and tench, while Old Stock Pond offers seven pegs and another mix of carp varieties with green tench. Smaller doesn’t automatically mean easier, mind.

Getting your kit to the bank looks refreshingly straightforward. Parking is within 20 metres of every lake, and most Canal pegs are within 10 metres of parking. Most pegs have platforms and paths designed for wheelchair access, and there’s a wheelchair-accessible toilet too. That makes access a real part of the venue’s appeal, not just an afterthought. If you need a particular peg arrangement, a quick call before travelling is still a sensible move rather than assuming every swim will suit.

Ordinary day visits don’t need booking: check in at the office and pay cash on arrival. Cards aren’t accepted, so don’t get caught out with only your phone or bank card. The published tariff is still labelled 2025, with an adult day ticket at £14 and an evening option at £7 for fishing after 4pm. Those aren’t confirmed 2026 prices, so check before setting off. Fishing is described as year-round, but daylight opening hours vary; ring the fishery to get your timings bob on.

Tackle-wise, keep it barbless, leave fixed rigs out of the bag and bring an unhooking mat. Keepnets and all fish retention are banned, and you must fish from marked swims. Night fishing is offered too, though groups larger than two need to book beforehand and night guests are limited to partners. There’s plenty of choice here without needing to chase a headline fish weight: pick the species mix and layout that suit your day, sort the essentials, and settle into your chosen swim.
