The lowdown

  • Hale Bridge is the handy landmark here, with the fishery running above and below it near Woodgreen. It’s an RDAA stretch, so get your membership or member-arranged guest ticket sorted before heading down.
  • There are 400 metres of double-bank fishing plus 500 metres of single-bank fishing. That’s worth keeping straight: both banks are included for part of the stretch, not for the whole lot.
  • Barbel, chub and roach get the club’s particular mention for catches here. A cracking shortlist if you’re deciding what to target, rather than simply packing every bit of tackle you own.
  • The fish list doesn’t stop there. Dace, grayling, pike, perch and trout are also named for Hale Park, giving this bit of Avon a broader mix than those three headline species.
  • For coarse fishing, the dates to stick in your diary are 16 June–14 March. Trout and salmon fishing is also permitted in season, but that’s not a green light for year-round coarse fishing.
  • Normal hours run from sunrise until one hour after sunset. Fancy a cheeky later finish? You’ll need the night-permit supplement, and Hale Park still has its own cut-off times.
  • October needs a quick check with the club. The venue page switches to a 10pm finish on 1 October, while the separate PDF switches extended hours on 1 November. Save yourself the faff.
  • Parking is beside the bridge in the pull-in, or along the road without obstructing anyone. Keep the bridge barrier clear, and take the club’s overhead-cable advice seriously: fish at least 20 metres away.

Methods: Barbel, chub and roach are the club’s headline targets here, with several other species listed too. Pick your target before loading the kit, and keep every session catch and release.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
