The lowdown
- This is Redbrook, Fordingbridge, on the Hampshire Avon. Ringwood & District Anglers Association runs the fishing, and the boundaries are marked on site — use those markers to keep your session on the right stretch.
- There’s a proper mixed line-up here: chub, roach, dace, grayling, bream, barbel, pike, eels and trout are all named. Plenty to think about when choosing your target, rather than treating it as a one-species venue.
- For a coarse-fishing session, the dates are 16 June to 14 March. Get those in the diary before sorting your tackle; the trout season has its own dates, so the two aren’t interchangeable.
- Trout fishing runs from 15 April to 30 September, and salmon fishing is permitted in season too. Spinning gets an explicit yes here, giving you a confirmed method option when planning your session.
- Normal fishing hours run from sunrise until two hours after sunset. Fancy staying longer? Night fishing needs a night permit; the association’s annual permit is £60, with Rockford Lake excluded from that permit.
- Taking a mate involves a little planning. Guest tickets are available, but a member must buy them. They’re not public day tickets, so don’t turn up expecting to buy a casual day’s fishing independently.
- Parking is through the gate or on the grass verge, off the road, and you’ll need a club key. Once you’re heading for the bank, follow the field edges rather than cutting across the field.
- Keep overhead cables firmly in mind when picking your spot: the club recommends fishing at least 20 metres away. Its general rules also mean catch and release, with no bait boats at any venue.
Methods: Spinning is explicitly allowed at Redbrook. Coarse, trout and salmon fishing have their own seasonal arrangements, so match your planned session to the permitted dates.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
