The lowdown
- Two miles is the holder’s listed length, so this isn’t just a cheeky little corner of the Avon. Severals sits at Ringwood, with fishing run by Ringwood & District Anglers Association.
- Barbel, chub and roach are all named for the stretch, alongside dace and grayling. That’s a cracking mix to have on your radar, rather than thinking of Severals as a one-species water.
- Pike, perch and eels are listed too. Bream, carp and tench are described as occasional catches, so keep that distinction in mind: they’re part of the picture, not a promise for your next session.
- The coarse season runs from 16 June to 14 March. Access to the water is prohibited during the closed season, so a spring wander along the fishery isn’t an option under the access rules.
- For a standard session, you can start one hour before sunrise and finish two hours after sunset. That gives you the early and late slots, but keep an eye on the clock.
- Fancy staying later? The annual night permit doesn’t mean an all-nighter here. Severals finishes at 11:30pm from 16 June to 31 October, then 10pm from 1 November to 14 March.
- Spinning, artificial lures and fly fishing have their own window: 1 September to 16 January only. Salmon anglers have priority, so that’s another important bit to remember when planning your fishing.
- Get the access bits bob on before setting off. A club key is required, and the top car park needs a parking permit. Only non-commercial vehicles may use that car park.
- Stick to riverbanks or public footpaths rather than cutting across fields. Power lines cross the fishery, with the holder recommending at least 20 metres’ clearance when fishing. Keep your swim clear of litter too — it can lead to disciplinary action.
Methods: Spinning, artificial lures and fly fishing are permitted only from 1 September to 16 January. Salmon anglers have priority, and bait boats are prohibited.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
