The full rundown on Yateley East Fishery
Yateley East Fishery is officially known as the Yateley East Complex, run by Farnham Angling Society. It sits near Sandhurst Road in Yateley, Hampshire, with the entrance on the right after Weybridge Mead when approaching from Yateley.
This is private club water rather than a roll-up-and-pay venue. Fishing is controlled through Farnham Angling Society membership, and the society does not issue ordinary public day tickets. Members can buy guest tickets for most venues, though, so there is still a route in if you know a member.
For carp anglers, Copse Lake and Match Lake are the headline waters. Copse is a compact 4.4-acre lake with bars, islands and bays, while the much bigger 13.8-acre Match Lake has three islands and carp reported to serious sizes. Match Lake commons go to about 30lb, with mirrors reported at 39lb-plus.
There is plenty more to get stuck into. Nursery Lake covers roughly 7.5 acres and averages about 3ft deep, with bars, snags, lily pads, tree roots and small islands. That sort of shallow, snaggy layout should give you loads to look at, especially around cover and the margins.
Summer Pit is the little mixed-fishing option at around 1.8 acres, holding crucian carp, tench, rudd, perch and bream. Then there is approximately 1,000 metres of the River Blackwater, with silver fish, carp and the occasional barbel. A cheeky change of scene when the lakes aren't quite doing it for you.
Season dates matter. The lakes are generally open from 1 April to 30 March, while the river section is open from 16 June to 14 March. Every FAS water closes on 31 March. Night fishing is restricted to members on night-booking waters until 1 November each season, so check the exact arrangements before setting up a bivvy.
The practical bits are worth noting. A senior guest ticket is £15 per rod for 24 hours, and a junior ticket is £5. Lock the gates properly, don't park on the Sandhurst Road or Yateley Road verges, and confirm the East Complex toilet and tap-water arrangements before travelling. Membership and guest-ticket enquiries go through Farnham Angling Society.

Bait, rigs & seasons
How we'd fish Copse Lake
carp
A bigger bed of bait at range
On a big lake with gravel bars, a good bed of bait on or behind a bar gives roaming fish a reason to stop and feed for longer.
- Find a clean, hard spot with a marker float and clip up so every cast lands on it.
- Spread the bait with a spod or throwing stick — little and often.
- Mix boilies, pellet and particles so there's always something left for the fish to graze.
- Match the hookbait to the freebies.
carp
Light baiting tight to the island margins
Carp patrol the island margins on most venues. A handful of bait right on the edge often beats a heavy bed in open water, especially later in the day.
- Walk the bank first and look for bubbling, swirls or coloured water by the cover.
- Bait two or three spots with a few handfuls of chopped and whole boilies.
- Lower or flick the rig in quietly and back your line off with a back lead.
- Keep the drag set tight-ish — fish hooked by cover need turning quickly.

bream
Waggler and groundbait for bream
If they're within waggler range, float fishing over balls of groundbait is a great way to pick off bream.
- Ball in groundbait with casters and chopped worm at the start.
- Set the float a touch over-depth and watch for slow lifts.
- Top up when bites slow.
perch
Worm or small lure for the perch
Perch hang round cover, boats and drop-offs. A lobworm on a light float, or a small lure worked along the features, will find them.
- Fish lobworm under a float tight to cover.
- On lures, try a small drop shot or soft shad near features.
- Feed chopped worm to keep them in the swim.
tench
Method or maggot feeder for tench
Tench love margins and weedy patches. A feeder puts a small, tight patch of bait right by the hookbait.
- Fish 10–20 yards out, or tight to the cover where it's safe to land fish.
- Recast every 10–15 minutes early on to build the swim.
- Short hooklink with a dead red maggot, corn or a 8mm wafter.

How we'd fish Nursery Lake
carp
Solid PVA bag over the snaggy bits
With the lily beds and a busy bottom, a solid bag keeps the hook point masked on the drop and sat neatly in a little pile of bait however rough the lakebed is.
- Tie a short, stiff hooklink (4–6in) so it packs into the bag without kinking.
- Fill the bag with a damp crumb mix and pack it tight — loose bags spill on the cast.
- Nick a wafter or small pop-up on the hair so it settles over the mix, not under it.
- Cast a few yards short of the feature, recast every couple of hours with a fresh bag.

Bait, rigs & seasons
How we'd fish Summer Pit
crucian
Delicate float for crucians
Crucian bites are tiny dips and lifts, so a sensitive float shotted right down is what catches them.
- Fish a small insert waggler or pole float over-depth by an inch.
- Corn, maggot or a 4mm pellet on a size 16–18.
- Strike at any small movement — crucians rarely bury the float.
tench
Lift method float for tench
Tench feed with their heads down and tip baits up — the lift method shows that bite as the float rising and lying flat.
- Fish the margin at dawn with a straight waggler, locked by a single big shot 2–3in from the hook.
- Rake or lightly bait the swim with hemp, corn and maggot.
- Strike when the float lifts or lies flat. Bread, corn or worm on a size 12–14.
rudd
Floating baits and shallow float for rudd
Rudd feed high in the water, often near reeds and lilies on warm days. Fish up in the water to them, not on the bottom.
- A light waggler set 1–2ft deep with a single maggot or caster on a size 18.
- Loose-feed little and often to bring them up.
- Floating bread flake works brilliantly in summer.
perch
Worm or small lure for the perch
Perch hang round cover, boats and drop-offs. A lobworm on a light float, or a small lure worked along the features, will find them.
- Fish lobworm under a float tight to cover.

How we'd fish River Blackwater
carp
A bigger bed of bait at range
On wide, open water the fish move about a lot — a decent bed of bait at range holds a passing group long enough to get a bite.
- Find a clean, hard spot with a marker float and clip up so every cast lands on it.
- Spread the bait with a spod or throwing stick — little and often.
- Mix boilies, pellet and particles so there's always something left for the fish to graze.
- Match the hookbait to the freebies.
carp
Zigs in the warmer months
In clear, deep water carp often sit up in the layers on warm days. A zig is the only way to get a bait in front of them.
- Start at half depth and move up or down a foot at a time until you get bites.
- Black or foam hookbaits work well on bright days.
- Keep it simple — no freebies needed.
roach
Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.
barbel
Pellet and boilie for the lake barbel
Lake barbel feed hard and fight harder, and this lake runs alongside the river. Use a strong rod and line, and rest them properly in the net before release.
- Halibut pellet or small boilie over a bed of pellet.
- Strong hooklink and a size 10–12 hook.
- Never hold barbel out of water long — keep them in the net until they've recovered.

Tips & guides worth reading
How we'd fish each lake
Our own suggestions, worked out from each lake's features, its main fish and the venue rules. They're tried-and-tested methods, not reports from this venue, so watch the water and ask in the tackle shop on the day.
Copse Lake
Match Lake
carp

Carp patrol the island margins on most venues. A handful of bait right on the edge often beats a heavy bed in open water, especially later in the day.

Nursery Lake
- Cast a few yards short of the feature, recast every couple of hours with a fresh bag.

roach
Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.
Summer Pit
- On lures, try a small drop shot or soft shad near features.
- Feed chopped worm to keep them in the swim.
River Blackwater
Good background reading. Most of it is a few years old, so treat it as a starting point and ask on the day.
