The lowdown
- There’s a proper bit of bank to go at here: approximately three miles, split into three sections. It’s all right-bank fishing under YDAA, so keep that in mind when sorting your approach rather than assuming both sides are included.
- Depth and width vary between the sections, so don’t picture one uniform run of river. That variation is worth bearing in mind when choosing your swim; one section’s layout won’t necessarily tell you what awaits on the next.
- The Pipe Hole and Wires are the two spots picked out as productive. Handy names to have in your head when getting your bearings, without treating either as a promise of a busy keepnet.
- Groundbait feeder with worm and caster is the recommended approach. That gives you a straightforward starting point for the tackle bag, with roach, bream and perch the fish specifically named for this stretch.
- For a roach-focused session, maggot feeder gets a specific mention. Nice and simple: it’s an alternative to the groundbait-feeder approach, rather than a reason to cart every bit of kit you own down the track.
- Pole fishing beyond the marginal weed is also suggested for roach and perch. The important detail there is beyond the weed, not just dropping into the edge and assuming you’re fishing the recommended line.
- The stretch is used for matches, and fishing platforms are listed. Disabled access is described as limited, though, so the presence of platforms shouldn’t be taken to mean the whole fishery offers easy access.
- There’s a little access faff to plan for: follow the track, pass through the white metal gate and head upstream. Directions point to roadside parking on the left before the memorial; there’s no on-site parking or toilets listed.
Methods: Groundbait feeder with worm and caster is the recommended starting point, with maggot feeder suggested for roach. For a pole session, fish beyond the marginal weed for roach and perch.

Key rules
- Day-ticket holders must follow YDAA rules and applicable byelaws.
- Take unused bait home — don’t discard it at the water.

- YDAA identifies the coarse-fishing close season as 15 March–15 June inclusive.
Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
