River Ouse – Widdington, below Linton Weir

Widdington gives YDAA members roughly three-quarters of a mile of right-bank Ouse fishing below Linton Weir. It’s a members-only stretch with chub, barbel and bream in the mix, and feeder-fished caster or pellet is the suggested approach.

Run by York & District Amalgamation of Anglers · checked 5 Oct 2026

The lowdown

  • The stretch starts below the fish pass at Linton Weir and runs downstream to a notice board opposite Kyle Beck. Those are your boundary markers, so keep your fishing between them.
  • YDAA controls the right bank here, with approximately three-quarters of a mile to work with. That’s the extent given for Widdington; don’t mistake it for permission to fish both banks.
  • There’s around 6–8 feet of water in places, with shallower conditions in summer. That depth isn’t a promise for every swim, so bear the seasonal change in mind when choosing your approach.
  • Early season through autumn is the better period according to YDAA. If you’re picking a time for a proper session here, that’s the window the club points anglers towards.
  • Feeder-fished caster or pellet gets the nod as a tactic. Chub, barbel and bream are named, alongside dace, so there’s a mixed-river feel rather than just one species to think about.
  • Large pike and occasional trout are also reported. They add to the picture, but don’t overlook the rules: fish livebaiting is banned, and fish cannot be killed or removed without committee permission.
  • Summer boat traffic can interfere with fishing, so a summer session may not be uninterrupted. The venue is also available for matches—worth keeping in mind when sorting your plans.
  • Park in the small area beside the bungalow, then walk downstream. No platforms, toilets or disabled access are listed. The description says the gate locks at 10pm, but the facilities table conflicts with it—check access arrangements before setting off.

Methods: Feeder-fished caster or pellet is the suggested tactic here. Keep the changing depth in mind: some places are around 6–8 feet, but summer brings shallower water.
