B&Q/Carlsberg to South Bridge
A proper town-centre River Nene stretch, running downstream from the B&Q/Carlsberg area to South Bridge in Northampton. Most fishing is from the left bank, with a small right-bank section on the straight between B&Q and Carlsberg.

River Nene
B&Q/Carlsberg to South Bridge
The lowdown
- This is urban Nene fishing, with a canalised town-centre feel rather than a quiet rural run.
- The club says the water starts around the B&Q/Carlsberg area and continues downstream to South Bridge.
- Fishing is mainly from the left bank, so that’s the side to focus on for most of the stretch.
- There is a small bit of right-bank fishing on the straight between B&Q and Carlsberg. Handy if you fancy a change of angle.
- Expect footpaths, bridges and redevelopment around the banks. It’s very much an in-town stretch, with plenty going on around the river.
- Access is pedestrian-friendly, with routes through Becketts Park, Trenery Way off Auctioneers Way, and the footpath at the corner of Cattlemarket Road and Bridge Street.
- You can also get in via Weston Wharf off St Peters Way, or through the gate at the back of B&Q. A few options, which is bob on.
- Parking is limited. St Peters Way car park is the nearest one identified by the club, so don’t bank on finding a space right by the swim.
- The named fish are roach, chub, perch, bream, dace and carp. A cracking mixed bag of Nene species, even in this built-up setting.
- The closed season runs from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. Day membership is dawn-to-dusk only, and night fishing isn’t allowed.
Methods: The checked details don’t specify particular tactics, so match your approach to the swim and conditions on the day. Keep things tidy around the urban banks and stick to the club’s normal rules.
