The lowdown

  • This is a canalised urban section of the River Nene, tucked beside Becket’s Park and Northampton town centre.
  • The stretch starts at Nunn Mills Road bridge and runs downstream to the entrance of the Dead Arm. Nice and straightforward to locate.
  • Fishing is from the left bank only, with a footpath running along the whole length of the section. Handy for getting between swims.
  • Main access is via Radlands Plaza Skate Park car park or the Midsummer Meadow Pay & Display car park.
  • The club lists roach, chub, perch, bream, carp and dace among the fish present. A decent mixed-bag line-up for a town-centre river.
  • Day tickets are available through the club’s 2026/27 day membership, priced at £6 per session. That membership covers the River Nene town-centre waters only.
  • Fishing is dawn to dusk on this day membership, so there’s no late-night faff here. Night fishing is not allowed on the stretch.
  • The closed season applies from 15 March through 15 June inclusive. Outside that period, fishing is by rod and line or pole only.
  • Keep it tidy and stick to the club rules: no boats or kayaks, no crayfish trapping, no magnet fishing, and fish must not be removed from the water.
  • With an urban, canalised setting and access along the bank, this is a practical spot for a session close to town. Check the flow and work the swims with a suitable river approach, whether that’s a float, pole or feeder set-up.

Methods: A mixed fishery suited to rod-and-line or pole fishing. Match the approach to the river conditions and target the listed silverfish, perch, chub or carp during daylight hours.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
