The full rundown on Thorpe Park Lakes

Thorpe Park Lakes is a proper spread of artificial former gravel pits near Thorpe and Chertsey in Surrey. The Environment Agency treats the complex as one lake water body, covering roughly 94.912 hectares — about 0.949 square kilometres. That’s a serious bit of water, not a tiny farm pond tucked behind a hedge. It sits around 20 miles southwest of central London, too, so it’s handy enough for a day out from the capital.

The mapped mean depth is approximately 2.033 metres, with the water body grid reference listed as TQ0381268308. Named lakes linked with the site include Manor Lake, St Ann’s Lake, Fleet Lake and Abbey Lake. Abbey Lake and Manor Lake have both been photographed as part of the Thorpe Park complex, giving a bit of context to the former gravel-pit setting.

The surroundings are very much mixed-use. Thorpe Park Resort is next door, while Thorpe Lakes Watersports Resort sits close by and describes its wider site as more than 150 acres of lakes and parkland. Wakeboarding, waterskiing, wake surfing and stand-up paddleboarding are all part of the watersports scene, along with an aqua park, cable system and boats. So expect an active, developed setting rather than a quiet little club lake.

Angling or fishing is mentioned in planning documentation for parts of the Thorpe Park Lakes complex. That’s the useful bit, but don’t jump straight in assuming it’s a standard day-ticket venue. There’s no current official fish species list, no lake-by-lake fishing size information and no clear public fishing booking page. No current fishing tariff has been confirmed either, so there’s no quid figure to plan around.

If you’re considering a cheeky session, the first job is making a proper enquiry before loading the car. Ask who controls the exact lake or bank you’re interested in, whether fishing is currently allowed, and what the rules are for tickets, pegs, bait, parking, night fishing and seasons. Fishing facilities such as angler toilets, platforms, bait sales and tackle hire haven’t been confirmed, so pack sensibly rather than banking on a full-service fishery setup.

The site is accessed from the B388 between Thorpe village and Chertsey. Thorpe Lakes Watersports Resort lists a car park, reception and activity facilities, but its published opening hours relate to watersports and vary with the month, daylight and school holidays — they aren’t fishing hours. Virginia Water is the closest named railway access mentioned by the operator, followed by a short taxi journey. And just to keep things bob on, Twynersh Fishing Complex is a separate nearby fishery, not part of Thorpe Park Lakes.

We're not sure on ticket prices here — we couldn't find reliable, up-to-date prices online, so give the fishery a ring or check their own site before you go.
