The full rundown on Dinton Pastures Country Park
Dinton Pastures Country Park sits near Hurst, Wokingham, Berkshire, with five fishing locations spread across the wider country-park setup: Black Swan Lake, White Swan Lake, Twyford Reserve, the River Loddon and Longmoor Lake. The official address is Davis Street, Hurst, Berkshire, RG10 0TH.
For a straightforward day out, White Swan Lake and the River Loddon section are the useful starting points. White Swan is open for casual day fishing and day-season-ticket fishing during the daytime, while the river section also takes casual day tickets and day season tickets. Bob on if you fancy keeping things simple.
White Swan is a 24-acre former gravel pit with around 90 swims and carp, rudd and roach. That gives it plenty of room for a relaxed coarse session, whether you fancy working the margins or setting up for a mixed bag. Day fishing runs from 7:00 am to dusk.
Black Swan Lake is the big one at 84 acres, with two islands and approximately 40 swims. It is continually stocked and contains unknown specimen fish, but access is members-only through the specimen group. The waiting list is currently closed, so this is not a casual drop-in water.
Twyford Reserve covers a 26-acre gravel pit, a weir pool and part of the River Loddon, with approximately 15 swims. Carp, tench, bream, pike, barbel and chub are listed here, although the reserve itself is members-only through the specimen group. The main River Loddon target species are barbel, chub, perch and pike.
Longmoor Lake is a smaller 6.5-acre estate lake with five islands, but it is at California Country Park rather than the main Dinton Pastures site. It contains pike, perch, roach, tench and carp, and is reported to hold up to 90 carp with fish to about 36 lb. A cheeky option if you fancy a smaller water and a carp angle.
Day tickets cost £10 per rod, with a maximum of two rods per angler, and are bought from the car-park ticket machines using FISH as the registration and reference. Parking is extra. Barbless or crimped hooks are required, live bait fish are prohibited, and fish must not be killed or removed. Anglers aged 12 or over also need a valid Environment Agency rod licence.

How we'd fish Black Swan Lake
carp
A bigger bed of bait at range
On a big lake with gravel bars, a good bed of bait on or behind a bar gives roaming fish a reason to stop and feed for longer.
- Find a clean, hard spot with a marker float and clip up so every cast lands on it.
- Spread the bait with a spod or throwing stick — little and often.
- Mix boilies, pellet and particles so there's always something left for the fish to graze.
- Match the hookbait to the freebies.
carp
Zigs in the warmer months
In clear, deep water carp often sit up in the layers on warm days. A zig is the only way to get a bait in front of them.
- Start at half depth and move up or down a foot at a time until you get bites.
- Black or foam hookbaits work well on bright days.
- Keep it simple — no freebies needed.
carp
Light baiting tight to the island margins
Carp patrol the island margins on most venues. A handful of bait right on the edge often beats a heavy bed in open water, especially later in the day.
- Walk the bank first and look for bubbling, swirls or coloured water by the cover.
- Bait two or three spots with a few handfuls of chopped and whole boilies.
- Lower or flick the rig in quietly and back your line off with a back lead.
- Keep the drag set tight-ish — fish hooked by cover need turning quickly.

rudd
Floating baits and shallow float for rudd

- A light waggler set 1–2ft deep with a single maggot or caster on a size 18.
- Loose-feed little and often to bring them up.
- Floating bread flake works brilliantly in summer.
roach
Float maggot for roach
On a mixed lake a waggler and a pint of maggots is the easiest way to keep the float going under all day.
- Feed six to ten maggots every cast.
- Shallow up if bites come on the drop.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.

- Fish 10–20 yards out, or tight to the cover where it's safe to land fish.
- Recast every 10–15 minutes early on to build the swim.
- Short hooklink with a dead red maggot, corn or a 8mm wafter.
bream
Waggler and groundbait for bream
If they're within waggler range, float fishing over balls of groundbait is a great way to pick off bream.
- Ball in groundbait with casters and chopped worm at the start.
- Set the float a touch over-depth and watch for slow lifts.
- Top up when bites slow.

How we'd fish River Loddon
barbel
Pellet and boilie for the lake barbel
Lake barbel feed hard and fight harder, and this lake runs alongside the river. Use a strong rod and line, and rest them properly in the net before release.
- Halibut pellet or small boilie over a bed of pellet.
- Strong hooklink and a size 10–12 hook.
- Never hold barbel out of water long — keep them in the net until they've recovered.
chub
Bread or worm tight to cover for chub
Chub sit under overhanging trees and snags and are cautious, so a quiet approach and a natural bait near cover catches them.
- Bread flake or lobworm on a size 8 hook with a link leger.
- Keep low and quiet on the bank.
- In summer, try a free-lined slug or floating crust.
perch
Worm or small lure for the perch
Perch hang round cover, boats and drop-offs. A lobworm on a light float, or a small lure worked along the features, will find them.
- Fish lobworm under a float tight to cover.
- On lures, try a small drop shot or soft shad near features.
- Feed chopped worm to keep them in the swim.
pike
Static deadbaits for the pike
A smelly deadbait on the bottom near drop-offs or reed lines is the classic, reliable way to find a lake's pike, especially in the colder months.
- Sardine, smelt or mackerel on a wire trace with semi-barbless trebles.
- Strike early — never let a pike run off with the bait.
- Have a long forceps, unhooking mat and big net ready before you cast.

- Fish lobworm under a float tight to cover.
- On lures, try a small drop shot or soft shad near features.
- Feed chopped worm to keep them in the swim.

How we'd fish each lake
Our own suggestions, worked out from each lake's features, its main fish and the venue rules. They're tried-and-tested methods, not reports from this venue, so watch the water and ask in the tackle shop on the day.
Black Swan Lake

Rudd feed high in the water, often near reeds and lilies on warm days. Fish up in the water to them, not on the bottom.
- Size 18 hook and light hooklength.

tench
Method or maggot feeder for tench
Tench love margins and weedy patches. A feeder puts a small, tight patch of bait right by the hookbait.
River Loddon

Our take on the feedback
Our read
Checked Sept '26 — “Dinton Pastures is a cracking 350-acre country park with a proper mix of coarse fishing, from casual day-ticket roach and carp sessions to specimen-group waters and a river stretch with barbel, chub, perch and pike. Just remember: Longmoor Lake is at California Country Park, not the main Dinton site.”
This is our own summary of recurring public feedback and the venue details we checked, not a copied customer review or a promise you’ll catch. Feedback changes, so we keep it separate from the Tackle Index score.
