The full rundown on Wraysbury Lakes
Wraysbury Lakes is a proper big-water carp setup near Wraysbury in Berkshire, operated by RK Leisure. This isn’t an easy-peasy walk-in day-ticket venue. It’s membership-led, with several sizeable waters and the sort of carp pedigree that’ll have serious anglers eyeing up a campaign rather than planning a quick afternoon chuck.
The best-documented water is Wraysbury 1 South. At 80 acres with 23 swims, there’s plenty of water to get your head around. This is a venue for watching, thinking and putting the hours in. Expect proper watercraft to matter, along with feature-finding, accurate baiting and picking a swim that gives you confidence for the session ahead.
The listed stock is a tasty bit of reading. Wraysbury 1 South holds approximately 700 carp, including mirrors over 40lb and commons over 34lb. Pike, tench and perch add extra interest, while bream, roach and eel are also reported across the Wraysbury waters. The main pull is clearly the carp, but it’s not a one-species picture.
There are three named waters in this guide. Wraysbury 1 North is reported at approximately 40–45 acres, while Wraysbury 2 is reported at approximately 140 acres. That makes the latter a serious expanse of water and certainly not one for a rushed session. On lakes of this scale, keep an eye on conditions, look for signs of fish and don’t be afraid to spend time learning the swim before committing all your rods.
Approach-wise, arrive ready for a proper big-lake job. Bring kit that helps you fish accurately and care for fish properly, including a suitable large landing net, unhooking mat and weigh sling. Clipped-up work, tidy rigs and a plan for baiting are sensible starting points, but the clever move is to check the current membership information and ask the RK Leisure team what’s been working, where you can fish and what you need sorted before turning up.
The rules are straightforward but important. All fish must be returned as soon as possible, and fish cannot be removed from the venue or moved between waters. Fish sacks and buoyancy-retention slings are prohibited. Boats are for RK Leisure bailiffs only, while swimming and wading are banned apart from limited knee-level entry when needed for fish safety or photography.
Bivvies are allowed in designated swims, and dogs can be taken along on leads. Toilet and shower facilities are provided on most RK Leisure venues. A valid Environment Agency fishing licence is required. For membership and booking support, contact RK Leisure with the fishery or rk@rkleisure.com.

Bait, rigs & seasons
How we'd fish Wraysbury 1 North
carp
A neat lead-clip rig over a light scattering of bait
When you don't know the lake well yet, the simplest approach is the best start: a reliable bottom bait rig on a clean spot, with just enough bait to get a bite without filling them up.
- Feel the lead down to find a firm spot, then clip up so you hit it every cast.
- Fish a single boilie or wafter with 20–30 freebies around it.
- Leave one rod roving and recast it to showing fish.
pike
Static deadbaits for the pike
A smelly deadbait on the bottom near drop-offs or reed lines is the classic, reliable way to find a lake's pike, especially in the colder months.
- Sardine, smelt or mackerel on a wire trace with semi-barbless trebles.
- Strike early — never let a pike run off with the bait.
- Have a long forceps, unhooking mat and big net ready before you cast.
tench
Lift method float for tench
Tench feed with their heads down and tip baits up — the lift method shows that bite as the float rising and lying flat.
- Fish the margin at dawn with a straight waggler, locked by a single big shot 2–3in from the hook.
- Rake or lightly bait the swim with hemp, corn and maggot.
- Strike when the float lifts or lies flat. Bread, corn or worm on a size 12–14.
bream
Waggler and groundbait for bream
If they're within waggler range, float fishing over balls of groundbait is a great way to pick off bream.
- Ball in groundbait with casters and chopped worm at the start.
- Set the float a touch over-depth and watch for slow lifts.
- Top up when bites slow.

What anglers reckon
7.2/10 from Tackle Index: Large waters, specimen carp claims and a broad reported species mix give the fishing plenty of appeal.

Our take on the feedback
Our read
Checked Sept '26 — “Wraysbury Lakes is a proper big-water carp setup near Wraysbury, Berkshire, operated by RK Leisure. It’s membership-led rather than a casual walk-in day-ticket venue, with several sizeable waters and some serious carp pedigree.”
This is our own summary of recurring public feedback and the venue details we checked, not a copied customer review or a promise you’ll catch. Feedback changes, so we keep it separate from the Tackle Index score.
