The full rundown on Springwater Lakes

Springwater Lakes sits at Harford, near Llanwrda in Carmarthenshire. It’s a five-lake complex, so there’s a fair bit going on here rather than just one pond and a car park. The setup covers coarse fishing, specimen carp and fly fishing.

The coarse side is nicely varied. Two mixed coarse lakes run to roughly 3 acres and 1.5 acres, with depths generally between 3 and 8 feet. They contain mirror and common carp, plus tench, bream, roach, rudd, perch and crucian carp. A handy option if you fancy a mixed bag rather than sitting it out for one lump.

There’s also a smaller tench, crucian and silver-fish lake of about 1 acre. It’s 3–6 feet deep and has around 300 tench stocked to 6 lb, along with about 400 true crucian carp. Roach and rudd are reported to reach 3 lb, which gives this little lake a bit of extra interest.

For a proper carp mission, the specimen lake covers approximately 3 acres and is 3–7 feet deep. It has mirror and common carp over 37 lb, with two islands and an irregular mature-lake layout. That sounds like the one for anglers chasing a serious Welsh PB, with features to think about from the swim.

The specimen lake runs on a day-ticket basis, with 24-hour sessions available by prior appointment. Night fishing is only available on that 24-hour ticket, so there’s no casual turning up for an overnight. The lake is for anglers only, with no non-fishing visitors accepted.

Fly anglers have their own lake, stocked with hard-fighting rainbow trout up to 2 lb. It’s fly fishing only, with catch-and-release tickets available, although retained rainbow trout are charged at £4 per lb. Brown trout must be returned if caught.

Practical bits are pretty bob on. There’s a bait and tackle shop, fishing lessons, easy access for disabled anglers and reception cover seven days a week. Coarse fishing and the specimen lake are advertised from 1 March to 31 October 2026, with tickets bought before fishing. Barbless hooks, a landing net and disgorgers or forceps are required, while specimen anglers also need a large landing net, unhooking mat and antiseptic.
