The full rundown on Frant Lakes

Frant Lakes sits in roughly 150 acres of parkland near Bells Yew Green, with eight lakes across the complex. It’s a handy setup if you fancy a straightforward day on the mixed coarse waters, or a longer session after the bigger carp in Lakes 7 and 8.

Lakes 1 to 6 are the day-ticket waters. They fish Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 5pm, with tickets covering available swims across the six lakes. Do bear in mind that swims can be affected by match bookings on the day, so it’s worth having a bit of flexibility rather than arriving with one peg absolutely fixed in your head.

The mixed coarse lakes contain carp reported to 37lb-plus, along with perch reported to 4lb-plus, bream, roach, tench, ghost carp, orfe, chub and dace. That gives you plenty to go at, whether you’re after a few bites on lighter gear or hoping to nick a cheeky lump from the margins. Main-lake tickets are £18 for adults and £12.50 for juniors, with a £1 booking fee applying.

For a proper carp session, Lakes 7 and 8 are the ones to look at. They hold the largest carp on the complex and run seven days a week, with sessions lasting 24 hours or longer. Arrival is from 10am, and the first 24-hour-plus session costs £45, followed by £40 for each subsequent 24-hour session. These lakes are restricted to anglers aged 18 or over, with no spectators or visitors allowed.

There’s useful kit on site too, including a tackle shop, cafe, toilets, showers and parking. The cafe and tackle shop open from 8am, while the office is open from 7am to 5pm daily. Fishery vans can shift your gear from the main car park to the specimen lakes, which saves a fair bit of faff when you’re carrying the lot.

Tackle rules are fairly specific. Barbless hooks, a personal unhooking mat and the right-sized landing net are compulsory, while braid, bait boats and stalking are not allowed. All fishing must be pre-booked, bookings can’t be cancelled or transferred, and payments are non-refundable under the booking conditions. Get the admin sorted, pack the right net and you’re bob on.
