The full rundown on Embryo Angling Norton Disney

Norton Disney is a proper carp complex: six main day-ticket lakes spread across a 140-acre site, with over 80 swims between them. It’s in Norton Disney, Lincolnshire, at Swinderby Road/Butt Lane, LN6 9QH. There’s a fair bit of choice here, rather than one lake trying to suit everyone. We haven’t fished it ourselves, so this is a guide to what’s on offer, not a tale of getting bagged up.

The lake choice is the big draw. Billy’s is the largest at 27 acres, with the fishery reporting over 1,000 carp. Hodgett’s covers 10 acres and has the highest stocking density of the six. Stock’s is smaller again at eight acres, with over 750 fish and several double swims. Those stocking claims give you something useful to compare, but they’re not a promise that the bobbins will be dancing.

If bigger-fish fishing is your thing, Pettitt’s is described as the principal big-fish lake. Holden’s offers a different angle: an 11-acre, deep specimen water with double swims. Turner’s, meanwhile, is 18 acres with a relatively uniform lakebed. That’s worth knowing when weighing up your options, without pretending we know particular spots to get clipped up to. The fishery reports carp exceeding 30lb in every main lake, so the headline size potential isn’t confined to just one water.

There’s no advance booking for the main-lake swims. You turn up and choose from what’s available, first come, first served. If you’ve got your heart set on a particular lake, a call to the fishery to check availability could save some faff, though it isn’t a reservation. Sessions can start anytime during gate-opening hours. Report to the lodge when you arrive, and bring a card: payments are card-only. Also, the supplied map coordinates mark Stock’s Lake, not the entrance.

The practical side looks handy for a longer session. Toilets, showers and an on-site shop are listed for the venue, and overnight fishing is included in the standard 24-hour ticket. There’s also a day-only option and a concession ticket for pensioners, disabled anglers and under-18s. Young anglers need a responsible adult with them; that adult pays nothing if they aren’t fishing. Parking is in designated car parks, with no unloading at swims, so factor that into your packing.

Before loading the motor, give the tackle and bait rules a proper look. You must use the fishery’s nets, mats and slings, rather than bringing your own. It’s three rods maximum, with a current EA licence required, and barbless hooks only. Bait boats aren’t allowed, and bait restrictions change seasonally. Bivvies belong in designated swims; tents aren’t permitted. A little preparation matters here, especially if your usual bait bag includes shelf-life boilies or nuts.
