The full rundown on Taswood Lakes

Taswood Lakes sits on Mill Road in Flordon, near Norwich, and there’s a fair bit to get your head round before loading the barrow. You’ve got five carp lakes — Spring, Grove, Heron, Broadwing and Kingfisher — plus three coarse waters. That’s proper choice, but they’re not all available on the same basis. Decide what sort of session you fancy first, then sort the right ticket rather than assuming you can wander between every lake.

For a carp session, Spring, Grove and Heron all need advance booking. Spring is described as a heavily stocked runs water, with mirror, common, ghost and grass carp exceeding 20lb. That makes it the obvious starting point if getting bites matters more than chasing the biggest advertised fish. It’s still fishing, mind — a runs-water label isn’t a promise that you’ll spend the whole session with the alarms singing.

Grove and Heron bring bigger advertised carp into the picture. Grove is approximately four acres, fished from one bank, with carp from 15lb to over 30lb. Heron is approximately seven acres and three to six feet deep, with mirror, common, ghost and grass carp exceeding 30lb. Those are useful differences when choosing your water: a one-bank layout on Grove, or a larger, relatively shallow lake on Heron. Neither description tells you which peg will produce.

Kingfisher is a different proposition again: half an acre, exclusively hired for up to two anglers. The fishery says it holds over 50 carp reaching the mid-20lb range. Nets, mats and slings are provided, along with a shelter with electricity and lighting, plus a barbecue. Handy if you and a mate fancy your own lake without bringing every last bit of kit. Broadwing, meanwhile, is reserved for lodge guests or members, so don’t treat it as another ordinary carp-ticket option.

Prefer a mixed coarse session? Lapwing, Osprey and Grebe share a coarse ticket, and there’s no advance booking needed: buy it from the on-site tackle shop. Across the coarse waters, the listed species include tench, roach, chub, barbel, crucian carp, bream and carp. The supplied details don’t split those fish out lake by lake, so ask before choosing a swim with one particular species in mind. That saves a bit of unnecessary faff.

Before heading off, give the tackle rules a proper look. It’s two rods maximum, manufactured barbless hooks only, and no fixed bolt rigs, leadcore or braided fishing mainlines, apart from the marker and spod exemption. Carp mats and suitable nets matter too. Overnight fishing is available, but entry during darkness isn’t allowed — a crucial distinction when planning arrival. Weather or adverse conditions can also close lakes, so leave room for a final check before travelling.
